How much ammo is enough?

I’ve witnessed comments on several forums of people lecturing other folks to “quit buying up all of the ammo” to end the shortage. While I know that there are hoarders and panic buyers, I know there are a great many people like myself that love to shoot and don’t like their supply to drop below a certain level.
Personally I like to keep roughly 1,000 rounds of birdshot for each gauge shotgun, a hundred or so rounds of buckshot, 100 rounds for each rifle, about 500 on handguns as well as 1,000 or so .556 and a few thousand 22.
Just wondering if any of y’all have a set minimum or just buy whatever you can get?

When you can’t afford it or anything else.
Essentially..... when you’re out of money.

I have more ammo than I will ever be able to shoot
once you get to that point, stop buying it
once you get to that point, stop buying it

If I have room for more ammo and enough money for more ammo, then I buy more ammo. Simple formula.

If you're asking the question, then you definitely need more ammo.

enough for what?
Your own consumption in normal times?
To keep you/yours safe and fed in a SHTF scenario?
Enough to use as barter stock above and beyond #2?
Personally I've passed #2 and have been stocking up on common cartridges that I don't use, like 9mm, .223 and .357mag, for barter stock. If I don't end up needing it, I have several friends who shoot 9mm, .223 and .357mag

This is why there is a shortage.

I know there are a great many people like myself that love to shoot and don’t like their supply to drop below a certain level.
That's an important variable.
I generally find a good rule of thumb to be- a full, unopened case in addition to whatever you are currently shooting, of any semiautomatic centerfire caliber you have.
For bolt guns, I'd say a good 100 in reserve, each caliber.
Probably a couple hundred shotgun shells.
I have a few bricks of 22, but honestly I don't have a lot of desire to shoot them.
Several boxes of good SD ammo for whatever handgun.
That's normal times.
Once you get what you consider 'essential', decide what is:
a) a "GREAT" price, basically a can't-miss deal
b) the price you consider as "acceptable", if you were running low.
Then, watch the market, and watch society. If you can find a good deal, get it.
And if you see signs of unrest- toilet paper runs, gas lines and shortages, (riots in cities, pandemics causing lockdowns ) then grab whatever you find at the 'acceptable' price, while you can.
Another tip I've picked up- we all love our guns, we want to be ammo snobs when we can. I don't want to shoot anything but S&B 124 gr FMJ through my CZ 75, it's my baby. Cheap WWB is crap, Remington UMC is dogshit, and Russian steel-cased (Tula, Wolf etc) borders on criminal.
That's fine, when you can find whatever you want for a good price.
In reality, steel cases are still a lot softer than your extractor, I've run plenty through my guns without harm, and Mother Russia pumps a metric shite-ton of it into the market, for a lot less than brass.
Pick up a case of it, and keep it for when things are tight. You'll be happily plinking away while others are scrambling around at 6am every morning online.

Before COVID I had about 60-100 rounds for each rifle caliber. Now, I have about 60-100 rounds for each. I haven’t shot since hunting in January and only shot to check zero sadly.
Sad thing is I bumped my .270 scope last season and need to check zero, probably won’t do that until October or November. The cook thing was hunting with the 6.5 grendel because of that.
