I use 100% of my vacation and sick time on duck hunting. Plus my boss sucks at it and I take him often. Between that and entertaining clients I usually get a few hunts in every year.

I've hunted freshwater swamps from a blind up on a tree..by far the easiest duck hunting I've ever done..but never a barrel.

Hardcore...well I used to walk into Sabine on the salt water side...marsh had no bottom...sunk up to your 'nads in water and to you mid-thighs in mud. Walked about 1/4 mile to get 3 ducks. Luckily for me I hunted with Jesus and Peter. Yeah...because these two little bastards could walk on water...they carried two bags of decoys and my shotgun and their gear....Good to have friends.

There's a blind on George Franklins on the Handicap side that is about 15' up in the air. Lots of your shots are shooting down. Pass shooting woodies at daylight will put to the test your shotgunning skillz.

Im about as lazy of a duck hunter as they come.

Due to the drought around here, and the restricted access to public water, we mostly hunt farm ponds. Drive up, unload 1-2 dozen decoys, drop gear and buddies, drive to tree line to park and walk back. sit down in the tallest brush on the pond edge with the wind to our back, hunt until we go 20 min with nothing in the air and then pack it in.

We have one blind which I have shown in pics here before that I brush in before season but for the last 3 years the waters edge usually remains 50 yards from the damn blind.

I do have a box stand for deer I build on the edge of a creek that I will be putting a back window in this year to shoot the woodies behind me.

I was farming and then working as a farm manager on a notable hunting property.

Used to make a lot of hunts and then be in the office by 8:00-8:30

If y'all have never hunted ducks out of the top of a tree, you've never lived. Some of my most favorite hunts have come out of climbing deer stands, or even a ladder stand that was in a willow thicket during bow season, but became flooded timber in December.

When you "shoot down" at a wad of ducks, they kinda look back at you over their shoulder like "wtf just happened". It's awesome.

I killed a wigeon one time that was pretty much self defense. I swear we were looking eye to eye when I shot him, and if I'd have missed, he'd have knocked me off the board I was sitting on.

Many years ago, our blinds were built out of 55 gal drums, not in a tree, but sunk in the marsh.

I've heard of people doing this. I'm sure y'all what, filled them with water, sunk them, then bailed out the water.

How did y'all anchor them? I always wondered aobut this.

How the hell did y'all fit in a 55 gal drum? I might as well just wade out to waist/chest level and stand in the marsh for all of the concealment a 55 gal drum will give me.

I don't think you have walked out in much marsh.

thick grass---check
thick gumbo mud that reaches up and pulls you down to your thighs ---check
water that amazingly is equally full of creepy crawly things as it is devoid of warmth-- check

believing that somehow climbing into and out of a damn 55 gal barrel, in which I will have to stand the entire time with everything from my waist up exposed, is better than simply standing in there in waders ----- no check
