How good are you with fishing knots?
I thought I was good with the fishing knots till I tried tying monofilament line with braided line and holy shite batman.

For those like me that might need help here are some videos:

Spooling the reel

combining the fishing lines with Alberto knot

Something that I feel I should have learned a long time ago.

I use the Double Uni when connecting Mono to Braid and the Palomar knot for straight Braid.

Uni-Uni, 5 loops both sides
Surgeons loop use three loops instead of two and it won’t slip, fastest knot to join mono/flouro to braid.

I tie an fg for longer leaders I expect to go through the guides. Uni to uni if I don’t expect it to. I can tie a uni to uni much faster. If I have time, I tie the fgs at my house and tie them like This video and burn the end of the braid. They last forever if you do that.

I use a Uni knot for almost everything with just a couple of exceptions. Have never had a knot failure with one, so if it ain’t broke.

Oh, and...

For mono to braid - uni (mono ) to double uni (braid).

Improved Bristol is a pretty good knot if you do not want to fool with a bobbin.

Try the Alberto knot; I use this when tying braid to mono or fluoro.....never had a failure. I tie a fluoro leader to braid when fishing flukes.
Alberto Knot

The only other knot(s) I use is the Palomar; either single or double Palomar.

Pretty much this. Only exception for me is drop shot. For braid, I just run the line through the eye twice.

For tying on a lure, the Palomar knot can’t be beat for simplicity and reliability. It can’t fail... the more it’s pulled, the tighter it gets. You can teach a four year old to tie it.

It is a terrible knot for fluorocarbon line. It binds onto itself and will break pretty easily.

Alberto is easy once your fingers know how to act. My knot of choice for leader to braid

I've had no issues with it when tying a fluoro leader to braid then tying a lure (usually a single hook) on the fluoro.

I know the internet is most peoples preferred resource, but every fisherman should have this book IMO:

"Practical Fishing Knots" by Lefty Kreh and Mark Sosin

good deal then. Maybe you're using fluoro well above the pressure you're putting on it? Offshore fishing and finesse fishing for bass, I have had palomars on fluoro break. I now tie a 3 twist San Diego jam knot or a Snell know for straight hook applications.

the FG knot is your best knot for braid to fluoro or braid to mono. The bad thing is, you need to take an 8 hour course to learn to tie it lol.
