How Durable is Cerakote ?
Talking about "all day" carry of Glock 26 or 19 in kydex holster.

How much holster wear is likely, and can it be "touched up" ?

If the applicator did it right it should last a long time.

"Many shops simply do not apply Cerakote properly.
We guarantee that our coatings will never flake, peel or crack*. If they do you can bring the items back to us and we will coat them again for no additional charge."

re: How Durable is Cerakote ?
It's a different application, but I've had the metals on my duck gun (SBEII) cerakoted for several years now (5 or 6). It hasn't chipped or flaked at all, but there are a couple of wear spots on the angles of the receiver. Nothing on the barrel or flat surfaces has worn, and the areas on the receiver are not bad enough to warrant touching up or to attract rust. You can hardly tell if you're not really looking for it. It's basically just wear spots on the angles where the gun gets thrown in the boat, pirogue, truck bed, etc.

It's difficult to put the durability on a scale of 1-10, but I can say without a doubt that it's significantly more durable than duracoat or hydrodipping. I hunt almost exclusively in salt marsh, and my gun takes a lot of abuse. The cerakote has lasted longer than any other surface coating I've ever experienced.

Benelli recievers are aluminum, why did they coat it?

Because it holds up to wear a lot better than the factory black or camo finishes

Like I said, I use the gun as a paddle, spudpole, leverage crawling around in the marsh, etc. I got the gun in 2006. After a couple seasons, I had to get it dipped again, because the factory dipping had worn badly. I let it go another couple of years, then I cerakoted it because the aftermarket dip had worn such that the side of the receiver opposite the bolt was basically bare. Cerakote fixed that problem entirely and has held up since then.

Good to know, mine SBE I was moly coated back in 2004 and other than not liking gun scrubber it has held up well but only the barrel.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but why would you want to cerakote a glock? Is it to change the colors? I don't understand what protection it would add, I've carried/shot a G19 and G43 for years and they look fine.

Cool name btw.

Why would you touch it up? People pay extra for the battle worn look.

Not a dumb question at all. The company a buddy of mine works for is planning to give a pistol to one of their really good customers (RGC). They have pretty much decided on a Glock since that's what the RGC already carries.

My buddy asked me about Cerakoting (his boss is thinking about getting a color other than the factory finish, to make the gift a little more personal). I know nothing about gun coatings, but told him I'd ask around. This board seemed like a possible source of info.

My SBE II needs to be resurfaced. How much did you pay for Cerakote back then?

I traded my guy a gun trust for the work (I’m an attorney), so I’m not really sure man. If I had to guess I’d say you’re looking at $150-$200 for the metals alone.
