Thanks. The one I’m looking at has a ‘marine grade’ system. I’m assuming this is fine.

Yes starting this year houseboats are required to be registered, motor or not.

Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries

quote:

The notice of intent states that every houseboat operated, occupied, inhabited, utilized, or otherwise deployed on the waters of this state must be registered with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) and be properly numbered in accordance with R.S. 34:851.20.

quote:

Houseboats would be defined as any vessel constructed or utilized for the primary purpose of a temporary or permanent dwelling without an effective means of propulsion for safe navigation.

A bill passed last year will require all non motorized house boats to be registered. The fee schedule is based on total length with the same fee schedule as boats.

The bill was passed at the request of a single lawmaker from the North Shore for the purpose of using the funds to clean up derelict houseboats wether they be on public or private waters.

There was a small group that spoke against yet another fee. During the committee there was discussion that this would lead to the forcing registration to other non motorized craft such as kayaks, canoes etc. Some at WLF expressed a desire to require registration of especially kayaks using the reasoning that after storms they find a lot of stray kayaks and have no way to return them to their owner.

They should just require there to be a phone number painted on the yak if that’s the reason they gave.. but that would make any money for them
