I was crabbing and fishing on elmer's beach once with my aunt when I was in highschool, and a thuderstorm moved in. The crabs were running really good so she kept encouraging me to run our lines. Well needless to say 5 minutes after it got bad enough for us to stay in the truck. The only other truck out there about fourty yards from us was struck. It melted the windsheild and ruined all of the electronics.

Well my story is a fishing trip in the marsh southwest Louisiana. Storm came in and we could not make it back to the launch before it hit. Ended up pulling the boat up on the levee on the Intracoastal and laying down on our backs. My Gawd I had no idea the standard lighting bolt could have 1000 leaders spitting out of the bolt. The sound and flash were simultaneous repeatedly. But I survived. I was also fishing Toledo Bend in my youth when a storm moved in suddenly. There was a big clap of thunder and we shagged it. About an hour later a hearse came and picked up a woman who was struck about a quarter of a mile from where we were fishing.

9x more people die from lightning than a venomous snake in the U.S. Hunters often go around worrying about the wrong thing.

I was fishing once as a storm was rolling in, fish were biting. Was gonna stretch it close as I could but the air become so electrically charged that when I would pick the tip of my rod up toward the sky it would start humming. I said nope and GTFO
