Is it just me, or are there more rattlesnakes in La than there used to be? I spent a lot of time in the woods around Northwest and north central La and have never seen 1 in the wild.
Now it looks like people are killing them all over the place.

Ain't canebrakes a protected species?
Edit: according to google they aren't. I didn't know canebrakes and timber rattlers were the same thing.

This is a buddy of mine. Was in New Orleans East. It's was 68" long. It's definitely dead.
