First time going out in the marsh by myself. Paddles around a good bit. Got rained on. Only landed one red - a 24in golden beauty. It was a highlight for sure. Caught him on a golden spoon. Weather was very overcast. Any thoughts on better bait? I figure I should have bought some shrimp and put in under a cork. I’ll be fishing a lot as the temps cool down. Cheers

Keep at it. I haven't fished Reggio in years but when I lived in Chalmette it was a favorite of mine.
I need to make a return trip soon.
ETA
Swimbaits, spoons, and matrix shad type lures with about a 1/4oz jig head should do good there

I like a chatterbait or spinnerbait when its overcast. Something that makes a lot of racket. Spoon when the sun is glaring since it doesn't make any noise, just flashes. Generally like a regular cocahoe jig for sightfishing.

Overcast day, I like black spoons. I take my old faded spoons, sharpen hook, roughen em up with sandpaper and spray paint them black. Itll last one or two trips before needing respray.

Was the grass still thick there or did all the storm surges this hurricane season kill it off?
I haven’t fished Reggio in a few months but Matrix Craw on a weedless swimbait hook has done well for me around the grass there

the grass was still thick. Trying to post a pic. dang these image hosting sites!
Like I said I didn't go too far. It was my first run so kept it pretty short. Will be fishing down that way more often as I finally got a roof rack on the Malibu

Weedless hooks with the head or belly weight and some Texas roach minnows. I’m a fan of Killer Flat Minnows. Academy uses to handle them.
