I've been on "the list" for a 9mm Sheild since November and am now admitting defeat. Good guns are hard to find in Shreveport so I'm opening up to using Gunbroker.
Here are my criteria:
I'd like to keep it around $500.
I'm going to use it for range shooting and keep it in the night stand in case my house gets broken into again. I doubt I'll conceal carry much but my last gun was a Beretta 92 (stolen) and I'd like this one to be smaller.

Here are my finalists:
- M&P Shield 9mm: around $550 on GB. Negatives: I hate paying over MSRP.
- Sig SP2022 9mm: $500 at a local store. Negatives: pretty damn big.
- Sig P238/Colt Mustang Pocketlite .380: ~$650. Negatives: really small, not as much fun to range shoot, more expensive ammo.
- Ruger SP1911 Commander .45: ~800 freakin' dollars on GB, if not more. Negatives: expensive.

Are there others I'm overlooking? (No Glocks, please).

looks like you want the shield... if you cant wait may as well pay a little extra on GB and get it now

I'd dig around for an SR1911

I wouldn't pay 800 for one

Ruger SR1911.

Ruger GP100

You don't want a pocket pistol, unless its for CC.

-If it isn't going to be carried why are you wanting the Shield? I'd look at the M&P compacts.... they will have higher capacity and probably be a little more comfortable to shoot at the range then the shield. I've kinda been wanting a shield myself, but I'm not going to pay above MSRP for it.

-The Sig is a decent good, and would probably be good for what your intending to use it for. Although, I'm not real big on the polymer sigs

-The P238 probably isn't going to be all the fun to shoot at the range, and again if you aren't planning on carrying it, that gun would be kinda pointless.

-the 1911 would probably be the best range/night stand combo from what you've listed, but as you said it will be out of your price range.

I may carry some. I am licensed, but work from home and don't think I'd carry often. The Shield gives the option, while remaining somewhat larger for decent range shooting. Basically, if I get the Sig 2022 and decide later I'd like to carry I'd have to go buy the P238 or Mustang - which is sounding better as I think about it.

I was in the same boat as you,, Ive been holding out for a shield for months but finally caved and just bought the m&p compact. All the dimensions are really similar except thickness. I guess the extra few rounds make me feel ok about my decision.

I have the SP2022. It's a nice shooter, good for the range and HD.

I enjoy shooting AND carrying my Sig P938. You should consider it. It's a slightly larger 9mm version of the P238.

Since you seem to be focusing on the 9mm, I would recommend considering a SIG P6 on gunbroker. They are right in your $500 range and are worlds better than the 2022. You might even get lucky and find a West German one. I love mine. Just my 2 cents...

Dang, I bought my SP2022 at Buds for $419 back in December. Nice to see your guns increase in value I guess....
