Choosing between three: Honda Rancher, Yamaha Kodak 450, and Polaris Sportsman 450. Just bought a Honda Pioneer 1000 UTV, so I don’t need a big ATV. Initially thought I’d stick with Honda and get the Rancher, but don’t want to ignore other options. Thoughts? I want power steering and an automatic transmission.

Can I borrow a few dollars? You seem to have plenty.

Subtle brag

But honestly, our 15 year old rancher is still going strong.

Yamaha of the last few years seems to have caught up. As of 10+ years ago I’d say Honda. But Yamaha is neck and neck with Honda today. Similar to trucks, some like Tundras some like F150.

Both the yamaha 450 and sportsman 450 are made in china specials.

The problem you're going to run into on the rancher is price and availability.

Right now, you can get a Kodiak 700 for less money. That's IF anyone even has a rancher to sell you.

Ps...plese god tell me you bought an extended warranty on that 1000.

You'll need it.

The answer here is the Rancher.

I did. Always feel like a sucker buying the extended warranty, glad you think it was a good idea.

Sounds like the consensus is to stick with Honda and get the Rancher. Now I just have to find one.

You’re not kidding about the availability thing, took me weeks to find a Pioneer. Was replacing an old Bennche 500 UTV I’d run into the ground, the Pioneer feels like a Porsche in comparison. The Rancher will be a similar upgrade from an old Polaris Phoenix.

My belief is Honda. Have a 1000-5 as well and a 450s. Longevity, reliability! Can’t go wrong

1000-5

I almost bought one 2 weeks ago but I was worried about the heat issues. I'm still considering it or the Can Am Defender Max Lone Star.

Two weeks in and I’m loving the Honda 1000-5. Haven’t noticed any heat issues, but I don’t ride it for hours at a time either. I’m amazed at how quiet the engine is, I can finally talk with somebody while driving. Due to the lack of availability, it seems any hope of negotiating with dealers has gone out the window, just FYI. I bought mine in Brookhaven, put it on hold over the phone on Friday, by the time I came to pick it up on Saturday it was the only one left.

You will.

All 1000s of all brands get warm.

I have about 300 bucks in insulation in my RZR crew. Half the Honda recalls have been heat issues.

My Honda was a toaster oven. My 500s I had were my favorite... But when one got totaled I elected for something a little safer with only me driving.

I can still take the nieces riding and don't have to worry about them getting hurt.

Not to hijack but what's your opinion of the Can Am Defender Max Lone Star?

Same as my opinion of all canams/rotax

It will either be bulletproof or a huge hunk of shite. There are no ambivalent canam owners.

I was a fan until my very low hour renegade grenaded with no warning going less than 20. Canam told me to kick rocks. I've never bought another of their products. Given I buy at least one and two a year most years, joke is on them.
