LOoking for something to wear while mowing, crawfishing, skeet shooting, ect. Use the foam disposables for now but want something that will last longer.

Can any of you recommend a route, either better plugs or muffs?

When you get a job as an engineer in a plant, you will get them for free. Just wear them now so you ain't like me with ears ringing and can't hear shite after years of tractor driving without

I have no idea on a good brand but wear them often and you will be better off

Hate that constant dull ringing in ears, huh, what.

I always pass my annual hearing test 100%

I use these at work over the foam ones they offer for free(they order them for me when I need another box).

They work great and last a few weeks of daily use.

I've some of the Surefire plugs and they work pretty good. They don't have as much protection as most foamies, but they're close. I've got the ones with an NRR rating of 24, most foamies are close to 30 (except the last batch I got from the walmarks was only 18, not sure what was up with that). Guns aint got shite on airplanes, and I've learned my lesson. I'll wear mine whenever I'm around any kind of noise for more than a few minutes.

eta: I've got the Surefire EP6

I'm older than 23 but I'm sitting here typing this with a lovely ringing in my ears. I never wore earplugs when I was younger.

I always feel like I am gonna pull out a pound of earwax when I use the ones that go in your ears

Only suggestion I have with reusable, is make sure you clean them daily. I had some and I find my ears start hurting after a few days of use. I go through three or four pair of disposable a day now. I've know folks to get infections by not changing plugs out regular.

Just a suggestion. May not be the case with everyone.

Me too. I think the plugs push the wax further in. Makes its harder to clean your ears out.

I failed my hearing test before going to Basic training. The tester guy got mad at me because he thought I wasn't paying attention.

I said " I don't hear shite "

Weedeaters and chainsaws are some of the worst culprits. I wish I had worn protection earlier in life.

For hunting, shooting, classes, and competitions. Electronic hearing protection is the shite.

I started out with some Surefire EP3s, they were good.

Then I got some Caldwell Electronic muffs, they were better.

Now I have some MSA/Sordin Supreme Pro Xs neckband model with gel cups. They are awesome. I can wear them all day and not feel uncomfortable.

I'll own some electronic muffs before dove season next year. Dove hunting and duck hunting are hell on ears.

We always wore those sonic ear type buds, not just foam. Supposedly they reacted to more hard fast sound than just growing noise.
We used to shoot a lot too. My hearing is the only thing that hasn't shown signs of age.

Yes. Even though the NRR that is advertised is not as good as others. I can assure you they are much better at reducing noise than cheaper models/brands.
