Caught 30 big (12"-13") sacs in the Spillway yesterday (pretty even mixture of white & black).Only one fish had eggs.

Water temp was ~60 degrees.

I don't recall catching big fish this time of year with virtually zero eggs.

P.S. All the bass (~ 50%) I've been catching in the last month have had big egg sacs.

P.P.S. No pics. Don't know how to host/post.

What area are you fishing? I thought the fishing would be subpar with the river rising.

May have been all males you were catching.

Probably Males. They move up first.

That's what I like to hear. Headed to the camp tonight and gonna attempt to slay the Sacs in the morning.
The answer to your question is no, they haven't spawned yet, but it won't be long.

Very good chance this.

They move up way before the females.

Thanks.

I was assuming (yeah, I know what happens when you assume ) that 29/30 was an extremely unlikely ratio for males/females. But I'm not a fishologist. (Heck, on some trips I'm not even a "catchologist.")

In the areas we fish in the Basin, 10 feet is pretty dang deep. Canals & bayous might be 4-7 deep, and lakes might be 5-6 deep, during "normal" river stages. So I never thought about "staging" and "moving up" like one would see in reservoirs.

But I appreciate the info.

I caught some about a month ago a little farther south, and they were full of eggs. not sure how long they hold them for.

I'm catching big female crappie deeper still Like 28 FOW. But it wont be long before they start moving to the flats and then on to shallow spawning areas here. Where I fish, lake is about 1.5 foot high and dirty. Water temp 51 or so. I caught 30 last Friday. Steering went out on the way in. fun loading that sucker on the trailer.
