I embarrassed myself today

Ramp full, we were in my buddy's boat/truck and he threw me the keys to back it down the ramp after a day of fishing.

I'm used to my mirrors which he didn't have so I used the in dash camera which resulted in a disaster.

How do you see with a boat? Just use mirrors.

Back up camera is only for hooking up the boat son! Just had this conversation with my 18yo son teaching him how to back up the trailer/boat last weekend!

I just use the camera for hooking up to the trailer. Y’all can hate all y’all want, but I just swing my head around. I can use the mirrors, but I’m much faster just sticking my head out the window and looking back.

Easy, grab the bottom of the steering wheel and turn it the same direction the trailer is going to go in the opposite direction

My truck aint that fancy.

Once I get lined up in the ramp I put it in neutral and let the trailer back me into the water.

Back in the day we used mirrors.

After backing up the trailer, loading up the boat, and securing our stuff we handed our buddy an old Milwaukee beer for the drive home.

Those were the days.

I welded some posts to keep the lights out of the water on my trailer and they let me see the back of the trailer when there is no boat. I just turn my head around. When I use mirrors or the camera I'm all over the place

yep, that is a deckhands responsibility to park and go get the truck when launching and picking up the boat

I use the mirrors mostly, but also use the backup cam and turn my head sometimes to double check. Keep your eyes moving - the number one rule in driving.

When I found out you had to measure all kind shite and put decals on your trailer tongue and input the info in my truck, it was also the last time I ever thought about trying out that dumb trailer assist knob. I wish you could knock off a thousand or two when buying a truck to not have that dumb shite.

Same. Except my trailer came with them built on.

I probably have the crappiest trailer on the O/B. I legit got a boat and trailer for 2 boxes of don's boudin. I'm just happy it came with wheels.

I have it on my truck. Read up on how to use it and the set up was seemed more difficult than just backing the damn trailer.
