Hard time selling an older outboard, any places that buy them?

I’ve got a 2005 Yamaha 225 VMax HPDI that I’ve been trying to sell for the past 6 months or so. The motor has low hours (250). I know I could part it out and make a pretty good penny, I just don’t have the time to do that.
Does anyone know of any outboard mechanic shops that may buy older motors?

It’s been on the thehulltruth for a while. I’ll give 2coolfishing a shot.

If you are having that much trouble, it is probably priced higher than the market will support. What is the asking price?

I know the owners and sometimes they buy used outboards. Give them a call T & N Marine, (504) 202-6406.

you get more for them breaking them down and selling the parts on ebay
i had a 8 year old suzuki 40 4 stroke with a corrosion hole in the head
when it was all said and done i bought it new for $6k and i made $2,800 selling it and i sold everything but the box the electrics go in and it took me just under 2 months.
figured i spent about 12 hours of my time finding boxes to package it all up an bring it to post office
go join facebook or get a friend who has it to post it for you and post it on facebook marketplace and you will sell it fast.

I’ve got it we’ll under market price. Mine is priced at $3200, market is right around $4500. I’m the problem is this particular model had a lot of problems over the years. Big block HPDIs have a tendency to blow the #2 cylinder.

Drop price to $2,500, have print out in hand, cross fingers. Age and low hours are your issues along with it not hanging on a transom. I have been parting out my old motor piece by piece and only have block and mud section left.

This is 90% of your problem with getting it sold. On the flip side, spring is just around the corner and some old baw is gunna blow his up from lack of up keep. Give it some time before you slash your price.

My experience is that it's alot harder than you think it's gonna be to sell an older boat or motor. That's one reason I stick with Aluminum boats these days. People just dont want to deal with issues

Maybe you can play the really long game and keep it until it's 40 years old and then it will be a vintage motor that can fetch some real coin!
