Great snakes to have around. We have them around the house and they are pretty tame. I pick them up once in a while to move them for various reasons. They are welcomed here and seem to know it.

Are King Snakes known to be extra musky?

Not in my experience but that may just be me. I've caught quite a few and never had one musk at all (we only have speckled kings where I am, fwiw).

Nearly impossible to tell by its shed, but looks like that could definitely be a king. I'm happy for you

I can smell those frickers from 10 yards away

Sometimes they dont stink though. I think they have control over that.

A real "musky" snake is a hognose or a garter.

Pro tip, if you can't identify a snake by the shed look behind the "vent" or rectum, if the scales change patterns it's non-venomous but if the pattern remains the same it's a pit viper.

Comprehend much?

Actually a Hognose snake will play possum and you can see it really easy.

First of all, what part of what state do you live? Can you take another picture of that shed with something for comparrison like a cell phone or shoe (or a ruler). The shed appears to have scales that are not keeled. There appears to be color bands on the shed, so not a speckled king but possibly a common king or scarlet king depending on your location. So far I would say, not venomous but I need more info.

He's a georgia fan, so he probably lives in GA. In georgia and along the east coast, they have the eastern king, Lampropeltis getula. And, that's what the shed appears to be due to the thin, light bands (or "chain" pattern) on a dark background.
