Had the best hunt of my life last weekend, little Booux who’s 3 wanted to go on a deer stand.

Had to bring 3 times the gear, pillow, blanket, iPad, plastic gun, toy binoculars, snacks, drinks, etc. had to remind him to whisper every 5 min, not to hit his gun on the window of the deer stand, turn down the volume of the iPad, and not jump up and down on the floor constantly. And he was tired of deer hunting and ready to go at prime time at 5pm.

Didn’t see a damn thing but was without a doubt the best hunt I’ve ever had in my life. Truly can’t wait for the years to come to experience more with him.

Everyone lately has become too tied up with trophy hunting where the only thing that matters is horns. Let’s not forget the simple things and the magic of sharing the outdoors and the love of the sport with the next generation.

my son's first evening hunt, he had a shite attack as it got closer to dusk. think he was getting nervous scared. he ended up taking a nap on my lap for the next prime time 20 minutes so he wouldn't poo himself. i stayed up and hunted the dirt power line.

Not much better than being in the blind/stand with your kids.

My son started going to the dove field with me when he was 2. Started shooting 2 years ago at 9. Killed his 1st dove and so far his only deer that year as well.

Nothing like seeing the excitement in their eyes.

Me and my GF made 6 straight sits over Thanksgiving and didn't see a single damn deer

Still ended up being a blast, we had fun and laughed the whole time.

I was frustrated at the lack of deer but it was still a good time

Had a very similar hunting experience with my 6 year old grandson Sunday evening. Great times.

This sounds eerily familiar to my boy’s first hunts this past week. We had a blast though!

I've had a 4 year old and or an 8 year old in the blind or stand with me a half dozen times with me this year. Its an absolute blast and a test of the nerves and ability to pack!

VERY good times!

My boy has been hunting with for a few years now (he is 9), and I shot a doe this past Saturday evening. After the shot he says "Dad my heart was pounding out of my chest!" I think he will be ready to shoot next year. His sister has two bucks under her belt so he is ready to play catch up.

One of my favorite "hunts" was an evening trip to a large shoothouse with my two kids, 8 & 11 at the time. I spent about 10 minutes trying to keep them quiet and still, and finally gave up and let them be kids.

3 immature folks in a confined space for a couple of hours... I'll never forget it.

The hunting part is great. But the best thing for the youngsters is a great Camp life. Friendships and memories that will last a lifetime are made at a good deer Camp.

I'm definitely an amateur deer hunter but I feel like these two could be connected

Thank you to all the dads (and moms) who are willing to take their little ones hunting and show them the beautiful sport it is. My dad hunted, but he never took me when I was a kid. I'll never know why but he just didn't. In fact it was until I was a teenager that he took me for some serious saltwater fishing. In fact, once I started duck hunting, I'm the one that took him hunting. I still love to hunt, I just wish I could have done it more with my ole man before the good Lord called him back.

To those of you who start 'em off early.... . Enjoy them no matter how much noise they make, how many deer they spook, or how many ducks they flare....there will always be more deer and more ducks....but memories with your child are there one day and gone the next. Kudos to all you dads (and moms).

I had an uncle who was a big hunter and never brought any of his 3 sons. My dad ALWAYS took me. Anyway, my uncle had a trophy room full of mounts when he died and I see on fb all the time my cousins talking about what a great man he was. In my eyes he was a piece of shite.

My son is 8 months old. Can’t wait till he’s old enough to bring hunting. Figured during the ‘19-20 season I’ll bring him around the camp and maybe go walk through the woods for a squirrel or two. Get him use to hanging around the camp.

I can understand your feelings, but I don't hold anything against my dad. That was just the way he was. He coached my t-ball team, baseball, umpire baseball when I was playing and was a great father. I just don't think he really thought about it that much. My father never had anything mounted. The only thing the man ever had was a curl feather from a mallard and a bull sprig's pintail in his cowboy hat.

I don't think it's related, but he never wanted me to learn to weld and mom told me later he was afraid I'd take up his trade...which I didn't. I was pulled to electronics...I didn't even go mechanical engineering I went electrical/electronic. And I learned to weld on my own....but I'll never be the "Master Manipulator of Molten Metal" that he was...but at least I can repair the BBQ pits he left for me.
