I have old revolver that my dad purchased in the 80s that is damaged beyond repair. What is the correct way to dispose of it?

Well you could take a sledge or pick axe to it, weld it, saw it up, etc....

Wait until one of those police "gun buyback programs", and get some cash for it.

Otherwise, take a grinder to the frame, and end up with something that looks like this:

Was dropped and the cylinder is slightly out of line with the barrel. I know hard to believe... but it’s a Rossi.

You don't. It's your dad's pistol. If it's inoperable already, mount it in a display case or something like that and keep it in your office.

Once you destroy your dad's pistol, it's gone forever.

I would get a gunsmith to officially render it in "non-firing" condition for display, certify that and then display it. That way, nervous Nellies can't say anything.

Are you sure it can't be fixed? Isn't that a fairly common problem with revolvers?

Chop it up. Use the parts as decoy weights.

Probably left the factory in that condition.
Not worth fixing but, as others have pointed out, you should keep it in "the family." Grandkids will marvel one day.

Mount it on the wall and use it as a toilet paper holder. Just slip a roll on the barrel!

Thanks for all the the responses. It’s one of Dozens of guns that will get passed down so I think I’m just gonna chop it up and keep the cylinder. My worry was someone tries to fire it and gets injured.

I get the sentiment and agree most of the time, but just because my dad took a shite doesn't mean I'm gonna frame it and hang it on my office wall to pass down to my kids one day. There is nothing display-worthy about a Rossi.

In my defense, he didn't mention it was one of dozens of guns that were being passed down!
