Got into ARs last year and have tinkered a bit, changed uppers, barrels, calibers, etc.. Decided to finally build one from the ground up. I've been wanting a 6.5 Grendel for ever so made myself a deer/hog rifle.

Bear creek Dual charging upper
Bear Creek side charging BCG with handle
16" Bear Creek Contour Barrel in black nitride 1x8 twist
Carbine Length Gas with .750 adjustable gas block
Raptor rear charging handle
Aero Precision lower
Luth-AR Chubby Grip
MF Recoil padded collapsible stock
H1 Buffer
Stainless Linear Comp on the muzzle since its a hunting rifle
JMT Saber Drop in Trigger with Anti-walk pins
Leupold Mark AR Mod 1 with the FireDot TMR Reticle
(Grendel CDS dial coming for HNDY 123gr SST)

Right now it has a Gunskin on it in Kryptek highlander. I really want to get it Cerakoted at Sulzer eventually but after spending what I did to build it, I had to go cheap for now on the finish. Hopefully it'll last through a season. My vise has already got to it in a few places.

Thoughts? Just thought I'd share since it's my first effort. It came out better than I expected, shoots pretty damn nice too!

I just traded for one. I'm researching optics as we speak. What magnification did you go with?

Nice. I’ve built 2 and both were bear creek uppers. They arent noveske’s but they do the trick for an economical budget.

Very nice job with the furniture.

Nice. I've been having one for about a year or so but I just started fixing it up to be my primary deer rifle next year. I just put a luth ar MBA1 fixed stocked and a JP enterprises roller trigger in it. I have a 16" rainier night rail on the way too. I'm probably going to put a charging handle like yours on it too. Do you plan on loading for it?

3x9x40

After using it just a couple times, I'm wishing I would have went with the 4x12 instead but I couldn't get it with the firedot which at the time I thought I had to have. After using it, it's a little green dot right in the center of the reticle. Nice to have but not necessary.

Eventually I hope to, but have to learn how. I use to reload shotgun shells with my dad growing up, but reloading rifle is something I've never done. And with Grendel, I'm not sure how complicated it is or if you have to neck down the brass yourself.

So far I've only been shooting Hornady 123gr SST in it.

You can get "ready" brass and save the brass from the factory loads you are shooting now. Also, give the ELDs a try if you're set on factory ammo. The SSTs are great, but the ELDs seem to fly even better.

Mind if I ask what you have in it, minus the optics?

Ive heard the argument that suppressing less than .30 cal is not smart. For example someone told me not to supress a .223 but only go with .300 blk out or greater for velocity reasons. I mean .22LR suppressors are avail so why not .223? Learn me why.

If you've reloaded shotshells, reloading rifle rounds will be a bit easier. Here's at least a place to get you started on basic rifle reloading (did it back in 2012 but most of the info is still relevant):

I bought the parts since Black Friday whenever one of the sites would run sales. I think im right under $650 not counting optics. I got my upper receiver and BCG for 160 total on sale and my barrel for 80. That saved a good bit of money.

When my paperwork finally goes through and i get my suppressor for my 300blk sbr, i will be able to move it between the 2. I already had that planned out :) though my son has adopted the 300 since its super light and it will be a fight over who gets the suppressor.
