Headed to the island tomorrow. I'm going regardless, but I'd like to know if I should plan to catch a sunburn only or have is the bite on? I have a few kids going with us that want to crab. Are they in the surf yet? TIA

I went Tues and Wed.

Caught trout at bird island and the rocks.

We caught some on Elmers Wed AM (Tuesday was really windy), but they weren't going crazy like last year at this time.

At least not for us...

Fished the beach and pass early from the shore. Nobody caught anything that I could see. I caught a really good trout, a small flounder, a small red and a sheepshead.

Been drinking beer on the beach since then, haven't seen the first crab in the surf.

Full moon so the spawn should be on. They have a good tidal movement so I would look for the clean water. Top water in the morning if you are looking for something meatier than the schoolies. You can never go wrong with fresh shrimp...........

Heading down sunday evening for a week. I'll be fishing Elmers when I'm not offshore chasing snapper. Keep us posted on the bite if you don't mind.

SSW wind blowing like a bitch!! Supposed to be good tide but with so much S wind the water did move out yesterday or today. Muddy water in the marsh and front is rough, lotta complaining not much catching. We ran north about 30 min today and picked up a few
Reds and 1 Trout! Clean water is hard to find.

I started in fourchon at the barges caught two nice trout, it was rough with the wind blowing. Left there ran to some islands to west and nothing ran further west and found some in cleaner water. Like Wilson said calm and clean water was hard to find! But we managed a decent box of trout but wasn’t nothing to brag about. Biggest trout went 20”

The beach is gunna be rough all weekend. We need a break of this howling wind every weekend

Beach was chocolate milk. Kids did manage about 1-1 1-2 of shrimp in cast nets and 20 crabs. Went the canal on Elmer’s island. 3 redfish. Saw no specks caught. Still had a damn good time.

Anybody been lately? Heading to the island next weekend. Getting there Thursday night and have an offshore charter on Saturday. Plenty of time left for pier and surf fishing and hoping to fill the freezer.

BIL was down there Sunday. Caught a couple specks on top water, and nearly filled an ice chest with big shrimp.
