I have a Garmin for my vehicle. Wife and daughter want to buy bf one for a grad present. He hunts and fishes a lot so I mentioned why not getting a hand-held.

I've never had one so I wanted to know how practicial they would be for use in a vehicle like the ones you clip on the window. Same thing, just have to hold, right? I hope this is a dumb question.

2nd question is I noticed a lot of diference in price. Can you get a good one for $200.00? I assume the hand-helds are all waterproof.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't assume that.

My Garmin I got for the wife has a battery. Can be used out of vehicle also.

I have a small handheld but wouldn't be useful in a vehicle. Maybe the better ones would.

Your wife and daughter share a BF... Whatever keeps them happy...

I don't think the handhelds are suitable for general driving use. They are cheap enough now that there isn't much reason why you can't buy separate devices for both uses. Can get a Garmin Nuvi and a eTrex 10 both for $200.

Mine too. I thought that could be the solution too.

He's her bf, not her husband.

Seriously though, I see hand-held units for 2-5 hundred. Doesn't have to be THE best but don't want to give him a POS either.

Not sure how accurate it is. Also does it have waterways on it. That would be important if using for fishing.

Garmin 60csx.

It will do both but unless its changed you have to buy the street map software separately.
