Looking for advice and recommendations on a good GPS App on iphone to track my path while exploring new hunting/fishing areas.

Map My Tracks is pretty good. I use it all the time. Can upload from the app to the website and view it there.
Use to let you upload your tracks to kmz but I think that is a pay feature now.

Orux Maps is really good. You can modify the maps sources file to add a bunch of different satellite image feeds (Bing, Google, USGS, etc).
