First time getting delayed. Ever happen to you?

No issue in Feb.

Never been charged with a crime. Not involved in any legal matters.

All my paperwork legit, DL, professional license from state, hunting license, fishing license, boat reg, two vehicle regs and a trailer reg, State and federal tax forms going back years, 800 credit score, everything maps to my current address on my current DL which is the "secure" kind that GA rolled out a few years ago.

Absolutely no reason whatsoever.

"But they're really backed up right now" bullshite.

The five people in line in front of me didn't have a problem and one of those people's paperwork was fricked up. And if the check system was just too busy then why did it take an hour to mark it "delayed".

I always get delayed. Always use SSN. Not a common name. No record. Doesn't make sense but it is what it is.

Delay is denial. Infringement. It's been 25 hours and I am still pissed. Is this a state thing or federal? I need to know who to send a strongly worded email to.

It was at a big box store where I put it in myself on their ipad. I suppose I could have typed something wrong but I doubt it.

I own "a few" guns

I've been delayed probably over a third of the time, maybe approaching close to half the time. Don't take it personal, it happens.

Over a decade ago, I was talking to a guy I used to do transfers with (since has moved on). This, after the first few times it happened. We discussed the process and some of my life experiences, which turn out to be relevant.

I work in healthcare, and a long time ago worked in mental health with kids. I had to get fingerprinted for background checks.
When they run the 4473, I get flagged "for further investigation" because of that.
Now, the guy running the check can choose to look into that, and I assume with a couple clicks (or whatever is involved), will see I'm ok, and I get a "proceed" immediately. I say immediately, it takes a couple minutes of digging, and even my "buy and walk out" experiences have taken 10 minutes or so.
Or, he can be busy running checks, or about to go to lunch, or near the end of his shift... or whatever other reason. So he sees the flag, pushes a "Delay", and I'm waiting up to 3 business days.

If you have any reason to be "in the system", you have a good chance of being delayed, especially right now. Lots are buying, and if something is flagged, they probably push on to the next application, and yours gets flagged and dumped to another guy doing deeper checks.

just wait 3 business days and go pick it up (unless it's at Academy)

happens all the time, no big deal. It is indeed strange that you got instant approval in Feb, but these are strange times

Curious why you say this? Do they wait for actual approval instead of assumed approval after 72hrs?

Federal, if you're in Louisiana. There is no state check. You're pinging in NICS for some reason or they're overloaded with the volume.

A 5 year CHP avoids all of this and you get to put your shirt over your handgun without going to jail! Of course, you have to pay the state to play.

Didn't I read that Louisiana passed a new bill making lifetime licenses effective for this also. However it's awaiting a waiver from ATF before it can take effect.

Also... Just for some clarification...

A 5yr CCP doesn't void the process of needing to fill out a 4473. As a buyer, you still need to fill one out completely. All it does is negate the FFL from needing to run your form through the NICS check. They simply notate your CCP info on your completed form and you're done.

Don't know, man. I do know that the reason the lifetime permits weren't acceptable to the ATF was because the ATF won't accept a background check older than 5 years. Apparently, when you renew a 5 year license, your background check refreshes, but not when you take the 5 year refresher for the lifetime. If the lifetime becomes acceptable as proof of background check, I'm definitely converting.

Yep. The point is definitely to bypass the NICS check so you can't be delayed and you can walk out the door with your new purchase. Unless it's an NFA item. Then you buy it, but you can't have it. Why the same automated process can't be set up to sell me a muffler boggles the mind.
