I agree, LA has the best fishing. Going on a long weekend vacation with family here in May. Anyone have a good inshore/offshore recommendation for a charter in Galveston, TX?

What bay you looking to fish? West Galveston bay or Galveston bay? Where are you staying?

I've been on two TX fishing charters through O&G. One out of Matagorda and one out of Port Aransas. They were both very disappointing.

Best wishes in finding a good capt out of Galveston. I'm sure there's some good fishing somewhere in TX.

Check out 2cool website guided forum.

My understanding is that SOME coonasses are disappointed with fishing here because it is different. A lot of guides won't use bait and prefer wade fishing.

Galveston in May will probably be drifting oyster in 6-12' of water or fishing the surf if it is flat/green.

Man, you must've had a few bad days. I will agree the fishing isn't as fast and furious as Louisiana, as you have to search a bit harder for the fish, but the fishing along the whole gulf coast in Texas is excellent. Not quite the numbers of Louisiana but the average size of fish isn't comparable. Certainly different types of estuaries on the whole. The majority of hardcore fishermen in Texas, and there are a ton, prefer to get out of the boat and wade fish. Wade fishing typically produces larger fish for guys targeting trophies. And, when they catch a trophy they generally take measurements, a picture, and release them to fight another day.

I would strongly second this. Join 2coolfishing.com and check out the general fishing forum and guide report forum. You will get a ton of suggestions on top notch Galveston/West Galveston/Trinity Bay guides. They have some really good ones around here.
