I didn’t see this coming. After a pretty uneventful hunt, the typical no bird type, i was walking back to camp when suddenly without any warning this little ball of fur comes running up to me and then a very pissed off hen suddenly charges me and I realize that the fur ball is a actually a little poult and see several others. The little poult doesn’t get it and continues to follow me as the mad momma hen retreats back to the woods. I made a bunch of noise and tried to get it follow its mother to no avail, until it finally rolled up into a little ball that looked just like a rock. I wanted to help the little guy get back to his nest but was scared if I picked him up he would be abandoned by flock.

I hope he made it. His mom was fierce and willing to risk her life for him.

Yeah sorry that’s it. I don’t think it imprinted on me as much as they were all just running around and he probably thought i was mamma. They must have just hatched as they looked like baby brown tribbles. Not much bigger than a walnut. Really cute.

St stephens so what 30 miles south or so. We have very early hatch this year. I heard poults crying in the nest at two other spots and of course saw the soon to be dead giant arse panther sized bobcat in the day time on one of game cameras.
