Freeze

well it depends on how cold it gets of course. But I've used 2 100watt bulbs under a tarp when it got down to 19 and had no freezing at all of my citrus trees. An important thing to do is make sure the tarp comes all the way down to the ground so you can capture the ground heat as well and seal off the wind that usually comes with a cold front.

I will be doing the same thing this afternoon to prepare for the 22 that is predicted.

One other thing to know is that plants (atleast citrus) become more tolerant to cold the longer they are exposed to it. Something about a chemical that is produced when acclimating to cold weather. So the first cold front has the potential to do the most damage while the last cold of the year you may not even need to cover the plant when it doesn't freeze too hard. Also the total age of a tree has some affect on cold tolerance so young trees need more care.

Pick them unless you can put lights on them. Must use old incandescent bulbs that put off heat. LED's won't work. If enough time one could bend pvc pipe and use plastic sheeting for making a cheap greenhouse to cover them

Bought 5 HF 11x11 tarps and will cover tomorrow after the rain. I don't think the trees will be wet long with the predicted wind.

I think I am going to just use a standard party tent deal then use tarp around that.

Right. Tree is incredibly close to the back of my garage on the south side. Like, the trunk in less than 5' away. I'll do some anchoring.
