I have a 2006 F250 I use for hunting and various tow/haul stuff and I have a 2002 3.0 V6 Ford Ranger that I use for driving back and forth to work and various trips around town. I love that truck!

the incessant need to change everything to new and improved until they completely frick it up is maddening

if ford and chevy just simply remake the ranger and s-10 the same way they were made in the 1990's with just better made newer injection systems, they would outsell anything made today

Im a Tacoma man. That said, I did own a 94 Ranger XLT. I absolutely loved that little truck. It did everything I needed it to do including pull a small boat. I think Ford passed up a huge opportunity to Toyota for that market and, in doing so, made a big mistake. The 4 banger on that new one wouldnt bother me. Its about doing more with less. I hope it does well.

Anything to be wary of with a 2015 or 2016 F150?

Back in the 1980’s I sold my Chevy luv truck with V-8 to a friend for Ford Ranger 4x4. I had that truck 3 months and my wife made me sell it to get an Isuzu Diesel 4x2. She did not like the height of my Ford Ranger 4x4. The Ford was a beast for a little 4x4.
I had roll bar, with lift kit, wench, and shotgun rack.
That was a fun truck to ride in the California desert.

I don’t understand the point of small trucks. Optioned out, they are in a similar price range to a full size, don’t get drastically better fuel economy, and are less capable overall
I have a full size now, and wish I had smaller.

Let's get this straight, you are complaining that Ford is using an engine that produces more torque and power than the boat anchor 4.0 V6 could ever hope for in the last generation Ranger while still getting MPG numbers that rival the anemic 2.3L Duratech I4. 10-spd transmission is going to make this engine punch well above its weight class too.

Yes. So what if the 2.3 is a good engine? Is that it??? The 2.7 is a great engine. I guess it depends if you really want to win and give your customers a great product.

The 2.3 is a great engine and in the Ranger it will benefit from the aftermarket support the 2.3L Mustang gets and the 2.7L doesn't. So they'll give the customers all they want and then some.

Yeah but will a the 2.3 be able to tow anything? I’m guessing max tow will be around 3500.

The engine can probably handle more than the chassis, brakes, rear end, and suspension can safely handle. Same limiting factors as every other truck on the road. 7,700+ is what the Ranger can be optioned to handle in the markets that currently have them. That's all a F-150 could handle with a tow package nearly 20 years ago.

It's a good little engine but the 2.7 is 335 hp and 375 lb ft. so it's a lot stronger and it gives options to the buyer.

No one other than other than folks who wear their flatbill sideways are interested in a 1/4 ton truck with 335 HP, sales would not justify it's existance.

The 3.2 5 cylinder diesel is already approved by the EPA in the Transit and is already available in the Ranger elsewhere.

Look for it soon, they need to see if the public is even interested in the Ranger first.

I’m looking at towing a 20 ft boat so I don’t need a huge truck. If the 7700 lb rating is legit then I may consider one of these.

I have an F-150 with the 2.7L EB (325 HP) and it is very impressive so I would have to guess a 2.3L EB in a truck the size of a Ranger would do just fine.

Give it a chance before knocking it.

Only issue back in old people days with small truck towing a larger boat was being able to stop or handle length of the board backing down a boat ramp.

I had both an S10 has vortec v-6 4x2 and ford had 4.0 v6 4x4 that I towed a 19ft champion bassboat. Straight away hwy driving they were great. Stopping or backing down a boat launch depending on how steep it was you had to watch it.

I can agree with this.

I need a truck that can pull 3,000 pounds, haul 4-5 sheets of plywood and few 2x4's and get 30 miles to the gallon.

I also still don't understand how in the world they wouldn't opt to put the 5.0 in the fusion. Just doesn't make sense.
