Ha Ha I know the family, they are well off and spend a lot of time at Winter Quarters.

Great Hunting, Great Fishing if you have a spare million laying around. The land steward keeps everything in top shape so when you show up you don't have to work or stress out.

I think you can actually get a share for $950,000. So it's not that bad

I'm stressed out thinking about the R.O.I. for 1MM on shooting a deer.

For that money, I would want more variety than whitetails and hogs.

How many members are there? What are the accommodations like?

I've been led to believe 28 members (2 spots each) and there are no accomodations on the place, all lodging is outside the boundaries. This could be wrong but what I've been told.

A bunch of old farts. They actually had several openings a few months ago.

I don’t know man. You’ll get your money back, plus some if you want to get out on some of these places. People are lining up to buy in when a share in a well run island comes up for sale. And river camps are so much fun when things are going good.

What gets me is all the rules and just general bullshite that comes with these places. If I were paying a million dollars and the yearly dues that go along with it, I couldn’t see myself dealing real well with the blow back that comes with mistakenly judging a 158” deer to be mature and he turns out to be a 4.5 year old or waxing what you think is a big 7 point and walk up to it and it’s got one you didn’t see or it’s got one broken off, so it’s actually an 8 point and they just basically frick you in the arse for a year or two when they hand down the penalty.

Like I said, river camps can be so much fun when things are going good, but if I’ve got a million dollars to burn, I’ll just go pay out the arse for some Big Black land and do whatever the frick I want.

I know of someone who bought membership for $800,000 last year,it was advertised for 1 million but didn’t sell for that.A man I knew bought membership good many years ago for $100,000,so actually a pretty good investment.
A friend of mine bought a membership in Ashbrook Island, kept it 7-8 years and doubled their money when they sold it.It was good duck hunting and fishing but the deer hunting kinda sucked.Their restrictions were so strict, very few deer were killed.
Then there were a couple of cliques that were in a perpetual power struggle. Not all the members were in the cliques, they just wanted to hunt, but it did create a tension in the atmosphere that I wouldn’t have wanted to deal with.
I don’t know if Winter Quarters has the same issue,I never went there.

The Cox's have been hunting over there for 30 years so I'm sure they bought in low.

I used to hunt across the levee (outside) on some land a friend of my dad had.

I've hunted winterquarters and Davis island . Prefer Davis island but they are both awesome. Pretty strict rules on Davis island .

Give it another year or two.

How’s the duck and turkey hunting?

One of the best setups going. Using a Lake Bruin lake house for your year round camp and hunting on the river is perfect.

I would be just as excited killing a basket rack 8 pernt on public land as that buck.

But to each his own

My excitement level in killling bucks does not scale with antler size. It depends on the context. The ultimate would be killing a buck like that on public land. Now that would be something to brag about.
