yet staying at a camp in another state.

A few friends and I are planning to run away from all the fresh water from the Mississippi river and try the offshore waters out of Sabine. Plan on launching in Sabine(Texas side) plan on having Texas licenses for out of state fishermen(we're all from Louisiana) yet we will be staying at a camp around Johnsons Bayou in Louisiana.

The boat is tied up in a slip in Texas waters so all we would be doing is driving to the boat, taking it out fishing, bringing it back to the harbor, cleaning our catch(hopefully) and head back to the camp with our catch.

Is there anything logistically or legally we should be concerned with?

There will be 4 of us but only 2 of us fish enough to have Louisiana licenses.

You need a license for the state that you are fishing in. If you run from Texas and fish in Louisiana then you need an LA license. If you as much as wet a line in TX you need both.

If yall are Louisiana residents then spend the $30 and get both. It would be dumb not to.

I will have both but two of the people who will be fishing with us will never use the Louisiana license.

So you're telling me, I can't launch in Texas and fish Louisiana waters without a Louisiana license?

How about federal waters?

Correct, the only place I know of that you can do that legally is Toledo Bend.

Doesn't matter. If you fish in Texas and transport the fish by vehicle back into Louisiana you can still get a ticket if pulled over by a game warden in LA with no LA fishing license.

is this a serious question? If you are fishing Louisiana waters, you need a Louisiana license, period, regardless of whether you launched in Texas or launched in Florida and ran across the Gulf

I'm wondering if Mississippi and Louisiana have some sort of deal because I know plenty of people who launch out of Mississippi and fish Breton sound and Biloxi marsh and I'm pretty sure they don't buy Louisiana licenses.

I had no clue there was a transport of fish filet rule. Where can I find this rule?

Not really a rule, but there is a law. There is nothing on the fish that states where it was caught. If you were pulled over and in possession of game in Louisiana the first thing they ask to see is your license.

They do not. The people you know are fishing illegally. I run out of Bay St.Louis and fish the Biloxi Marsh pretty much every weekend that weather allows. You need a Louisiana license and if you wet a line in Mississippi on the way back in you also need a Mississippi license and you better hope that none of the fish you caught in Louisiana are undersized for Mississippi regulations or you are fricked

Oh they do have a deal - We screw LA resident son hunting licenses and LA screws us on fishing licenses.

They would be quite illegal then.

ok, thank you for the explanation.

How about fishing federal waters out of Texas? That's where we were going to drop lines down since it doesn't really get deep enough for snapper until you are in federal waters out there?

As far as I know, when snapper fishing federal waters you need a federal landing permit and a license for the state that you are returning to

Yep.

I leave out of Pass Christian and fish Biloxi Marsh. Have LA resident and MS non resident.

If you get pulled over in MS waters, you will have a pretty hard time proving you caught the fish in LA waters.

OP needs both state license for all on board.

I always hear this but look at the cost of an out of state hunting license in all the southern states and they are about the same. Sippi does not charge more for LA residents but LA is way out of line in cost for out of state fishing licenses.

They did have a pissing match at one time but I never understood the LA side of the argument.

They have to buy La. liscenses for this. I've kept up to date fishing liscenses in Ms. and La. my whole life precisely for this reason.

Do not cheap out over a fishing liscense!!!! Your friends can buy a 3day liscense for cheap. It's next to nothing compared to gas, beer, tackle, rods, reels, etc....

Agreed. I keep my track on the GPS for the whole day to make it a little easier to prove. Checking debris for triple tail on the way back in can get dicey if you are near the state line

We've been stopped a couple of times by the bridge to be checked and were told they watch with binoculars to see what direction you are coming in from. We've gone from Biloxi Marsh to Shaggys back to BSL a couple of times, that probably wouldn't be fun if we got pulled over with any fish that were legal in LA but not MS even though we didn't fish MS.

It's $30-$35

If they can't afford that then they shouldn't be spending any money on a fishing trip

ETA: Not trying to be a dick but it's a cheap price to pay to help protect our resources

Transporting clean fish could lead to a problem. All it takes is a ahole WL&F agent. Keep gas/fuel recites will help.
