Been a long time and wanted to make a video, still need to take it apart and loctite everything so maybe I can do it then. Id call this a budget custom that anyone can do in the garage. I still need some small parts to make it complete. Definitely need a KMW podloc for the bipod since its already fallen over. Need some qd sling mounts for the chassis. Need a henderson precision arca rail so I can use my tripod without a separate mount. Got the barrel off gunbroker for like $100. Looks new as well. Going to go with a 24" 7-08 barrel for this so when I order that it'll be swapped. Im not a photographer, obviously.

I like the bighorn, its not as smooth as some other custom actions. I had to file the cocking piece on the bolt because it wouldnt reset the trigger. Was kind of pissed, but im fixed it about 5 minutes with a file in the garage. Or I could have sent it to bighorn with the trigger and they would time it for $50.

Bighorn Origin action
XLR Element chassis
Timney trigger
Bushnell LRHS 4.5-18x scope
Harris Bipod with Really Right Stuff mount.
MDT mags
20" ER Shaw barrel 308
SiCo 762 Saker w/area 419 mount

That’s awesome. Tell me about the nut holding the barrel.

How much does that thing weigh?

Held a Ruger Precision for the first time the other day and it was way heavier than I expected

Basically, its a savage barrel nut system. Bighorn actions use the same thread as savages.

Allows end users to swap barrels pretty easily. Just need some headspace guages and a vice. Gunsmiths or machinists can premake barrels and then you can just order them in whatever caliber you want.

That specific nut is made by patriot valley arms and i can just use a big wrench instead of buying the special tool for savage barrel nuts.

They can do a traditional shouldered barrel like remingtons for this action as well, they are just a little more expensive.

You screwed up and put the bolt on the wrong side. No biggie, fix this when you take it apart for the loctite

Nice looking gun

Even being left handed, shooting a left handed bolt action still feels odd. Got so used to cycling bolts with the offhand lol

Hey, wondering if you have any updates/test on this gun.

I’ve been researching actions a lot the last couple of weeks and this one is at the of the list.

I’m really wanting to build my own rifle. I looking at this or using a remage system.

Ive had so much going on recently that I never even got to shoot the 308 barrel.

Its in pieces again because the new xcaliber 7-08 barrel came in.

When I did get it together with the 308 barrel I did have to file on the cocking piece to get the trigger to reset. You can send your trigger and action to bighorn and they will do it for lile $50, but I like to try things. Just filed it ever so slightly until it would reset the trigger.

I'll have to get it together and go shoot it.

The origin is a nice action. Proof research is now makong shouldered prefit barrels for them now so no need for a barrel nut.

I’ve looked at getting a Rem 700 action and blueprinting the action but I can buy a much better action for just a little more.

Exactly. The big horn isnt exactly a smooth action. Not that its rough, but if you are looking for a super smooth action spend more and get a defiance, impact, or other $1200+ action.

My old stiller tac30 was smoother than the big horn, granted I havent really broken this one in yet.

And im not saying the bighorn isnt smooth. Its way better than a savage or rem700, its just not high dollar action smooth and thats mostly because of the floating bolt head.

It will be smoother than any other gun I’ve ever played with.

Kengel, do you know anything about APR g2 actions?

Alamo precision has an action for the same price. I have some more research to do...

Alamo precision is a good company.

Rize and Got Blaze(I think) have some stuff from them.

Looks like the only difference between the G2 and the origin is the floating bolt head. Not a big deal, if you want to change to a different caliber you would just need to buy a new bolt instead of a bolt head.

Origin is also controlled round feed and has a mechanical ejector.
