I have the 9 inch Rapala and it is good as long as you sharpen it after every filet (2x per fish). Is that just the way it goes with filet knives or is there a "pro" version out there? Also the rapala is a little stiff, trying to get the bend is a little tough while trying to finesse.

We use a Dexter Russel for most fish besides specks.

I love my Dexter Russell fillet knives. Have the Tiger edge for getting through redfish scales and ribs, and a regular fillet knife for the rest of the job on reds and for flounder and specks.
Edit to add- the Dexter's hold an edge really well. I've only had to put mine on a steel so far to hone the edge and bought them last year.

I'm surprised you don't do an electric knife. It seems like most of y'all on here do.

Anyway, I have a 7" Dexter that has some bend that I use on rockfish. Mostly stiff which is what it requires.

I also use a 9" "regular" Kershaw which has more bend in it than the dexter.

I don't sharpen nearly as much as you are either. They aren't expensive either. Have had both for years.

Agreed.

Eta....I'm trying to think which brands of mine gets sharpened the most. It's pretty equal.

Get an American Angler Electric Knife.

LINK

I learned about these in Venice. When guides are fileting wheelbarrow’s full of redfish and trout per day with these, you know they are good.

I have an American angler that I bought at a marina in a pinch and complained about having to drop >$100 on an electric knife but I have to say that is a superior electric knife
My filet knife is a Victorinox which has great shape to the blade and also holds the edge well

I have the Bubba blade lithium ion rechargeable. The blades that come with it are great for Saltwater fish but sucksss for bass, sacs and brim. I bought the mister twister blades and they work great for fresh water fish. I can clean fish twice as fast now.

I use an American Angler electric at the house.

But I just bought this Gerber filet knife to take on overnight kayak camping trips.

I haven't had a chance to use it yet thanks to the 'Rona screwing up our Devil's River trip.

African Angler here, will clean 60 trout but. gets hot. Cleaned 25:49 today and was warm when I finished, didn’t ask buddy if my other AA was warm. All E-Knives are over rated imo.

Mora makes a good one.

If I’m doing a cooler full I use a mister twister electric with grip tape in strategic locations.

My old lady heard me bitch about shitty filet knifes and asked what I wanted I told her I wanted two knifes. A 8" and 12" victornox.... I fricking love them. Best knifes I have ever owned for cleaning fish, there are much better knifes but I am super happy with mine.

8" breaking knife

12" cimeter

The 12" is amazing for the palegics makes life easier. I found a smaller knife at the dock near me in about 6fsw and it's now my bait knife
