I'm looking for a Christmas gift for FIL, who I duck hunt with. We hunt a little lake in Ville Platte.

What is your favorite motion decoy in your spread?

Whatever you do stay away from mojo. I keep buying them and they keep breaking. We are kind of hard on stuff though.

Just get em a few Mojo's, always a classic and can never have too many. You can even set a few up in the yard in the spring/summer when you boil crawfish.

Edit: Motoroboat you been having quality issues with them? Mine are all pretty old but still working, it could be a recent thing. An older guy I hunt with still has one of his he bought from when they first went on the market and he loves to lament about how much he paid for it back then lol.

I am pretty much just a jerk string fan for motion in the spread except for occasionally putting the spinners out at first light but typically they get pulled pretty quick. I really wish there was a battery powered jerk string because I also call the ducks and pretty much call the shots too so doing the jerk string is just an added hassle on top of also handling my dog on whatever gets shot. Well I think my prayers have been answered, Mack’s looks like they have one now. OP I would for sure look into that because jerk strings are probably the best motion decoy setup out there.

Damn man, mine are 10 years old and the lining on the case is cracking and falling apart. Aside from the velcro and batteries going out on decoys and remotes , they’ve been pretty reliable. If you tweak a shaft I can see them burning up though. But mojo flock a flickers, not sure I’ve had any last more than a few weeks. POS

I have seen some made from wiper motors from cars. Too much trouble for me....I have one of the gang spreaders with 7 decoys attached and a jerk string and it works WAY better than spinning and wobbling decoys.....I have used 2 of them, 14 decoys alone, and nothing else, and killed MANY ducks over them.....I would bet not many people have ever killed many ducks over a couple of spinners alone...I know I haven't. Dove, yes, ducks or geese, no.

A jerk line flat out works all season and even with stale, decoy shy birds. Spinners flare birds out of range, in my experience, as much as finishing them....and more so late in the year and the further south you are in the migration....

Have you had good luck with it? I had the old pulsator with the big battery as an anchor and the motor was really loud. It got stolen and I thought about replacing with the xs but never did

Biggest POS I bought 4 Mojo butts last year and 1 made it the whole season. Weight that spins broke on 3 of them, also Higdon spasher flasher junk and crazy kicker junk Didnt last a season and flasher would flip....Pulsator and Butt Splasher seems decent..Real Decoy works very well but pricey. Best is homemade mallard machine in deep water.

I think Ville Platte is the only place they call it a flapper.
I’ve mentioned it to some friends from out of town on different occasions and they never heard it called a flapper. Proud to be a Ville Plation.

ETA: y’all hunt miller’s?

Tell your FIL to get off the E-decoy crutch and learnt to hunt. Like a gD crossbow deer shooter.
