Nearly the same towing capacity but with better fuel economy. I think it's 11,900 lbs with the diesel. 12,200 is the max with a properly optioned 3.5EB. I'd give the engine a few years to see if any problems come up and giver the aftermarket time to produce parts, the EcoDiesel Rams are a good example of what happens to good European small diesels when tuned up for the American truck market but also saddled with EPA-mandated emissions crap.

I would let that thing be out 2 or more years before I considered buying one.

They suffer from a lot of intake fouling due to the PCV setup and oil sludge issues. The cam gears rely on a press-fit rather than the cam bolt and can spin on the camshaft under heavy load. These engines are based on a model that is often de-rated in the European vehicles that get them. The L 630 version used here isn't de-rated and is used in a platform that can really push its limits. I hope that Ford took notes.

I can not wait for people to start reviewing. I am highly interested in them but want to wait a year or two.

The 4x4 diesel only gets 4-5 mpg more than the 3.5 eco, and it will run you at least $4k more. Hard pass.

Don't forget increased fuel and maintenance cost. It's a real shame because 1/2 ton diesels could be awesome, but they are so watered down and so much more expensive I can't understand the justification for one outside of a novelty.

Hook up a loaded trailer to both and try running those numbers again. This engine is an option for those that do more frequent towing or do hotshot hauling but don't need or want bigger truck. Then some people just like diesels. Don't know why people complain about more options.

Equipped the same the diesel will probably have less towing capacity due to the added weight, higher maintenance costs and fuel costs. I don’t see how that option makes it worth it. You could buy a gas 3/4 ton and still be ahead with the lower fuel mileage.

It is only available in Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum. Financially it makes ZERO sense. It is marketed towards the leveling kit crowd.

Does the resale value of a half-ton diesel hold better like heavy duties? If so, this would offset the costs. I've owned multiple 3/4 ton diesels and in the long run they payoff when it's time to get rid of it.

Yeah, read my first post where I put out the towing numbers. As for fuel and maintenance costs, if you tow a lot and tow fairly heavy you come out ahead with this engine.

This is a big drawback. Haven’t seen one yet that doesn't have a dual moon roof. They let quite a bit of heat into the truck even with the cover closed.

Same fricking mistake GM Nissan and Chrysler made.

Offer the damn thing in a basic work truck trim, cut the power, gear for mileage and you'll have a chance. Nobody economy minded is looking for a $55k half ton truck. People who are value minded and pull heavy aren't looking at platinum half tons. People who pull heavy with half tons will get the eco boost.

FFS ford you had everyone else's frick up to learn from and you put a niche product out after a massive investment just like the others did. Stupid.

Try 62k to 69k with no rebate offers what so ever. They’ll pull their head out of their arse when the trucks don’t sell, maybe.
