Anybody Kayaked or Canoed through the Etowah River mine tunnel? There's some YouTube videos showing people go through it with no helmets, no headlamps, crashing, getting thrown overboard, etc.

I can only imagine if you went in with no headlamp and run into a big log jamb halfway. The rocks on the wall at the very end on the right look like a giant cheese grater.

That tunnel almost looks man made or cut, do you know the background on this ?

Yeah I would have a Qbeam strapped to my head going through there. Looks pretty bad arse if you made it but damn I would have to up my game before giving something like that a try.

I do it almost every summer on a kayak, you really just need a solid headlamp. As long as you tap your paddle on the sides of the tunnel to stay roughly centered the ride takes care of itself.

About halfway through there’s a bit of a drop-off/slide because they cut the tunnel from both sides and it didn’t line up evenly. It’s a bit disconcerting going in but you move through so quick it’s not a big deal.

Obviously don’t try it during higher water. There’s a log float before the entrance so you’ll be able to take a pause and judge for yourself
