my experience with an older Burris is that is is a good solid scope. My recent experience with those other exact two Vortex POS's made me throw the SOBs away. Crossfire (china) loses zero on recoil from anything big enough for deer. Diamondback (tiawan) is the cheapest Vortex that can handle magnum recoil. Put one on my 35 Whelen and pulled it off after one hunt in favor of an older leupold VX3 I had in the safe. Horrible eye relief, horrible optics. Anytime you move your eye off the exact center of the exit pupil, the lenses either go solid white or solid black.

I've done better recently finding awesome deals on new or slightly used Leupolds VX3s on ebay. Dont need fancy reticles, illuminated, or CDS dials. A solid $400 scope that holds zero with good lenses and light quality at dawn/dusk can turn a $500 rifle into a hunting machine for life.

BTW - if anyone wants a slightly used Crossfire & Diamondback at a good package deal - $300 for the pair.

it pays to go 1st class for opticts brotha, dont skimp

Lol while top shelf is obv better. For 99% of hunters in the south, its not needed. While i domt have any of the 3 brands mentioned, i have $1000 leupolds and $150 nikon prostaffs. And both do the job just fine for down south 250yds and in.

For the OP, You can spend a couple hundred on a cheaper leupold or vortex and be perfectly fine, and have great warranties... and if you want to spend $350-$400 leupold vx3

I have a diamond back that I picked up 50% a while back and it’s ok, holds zero and clear. The problem is the eye relief and edge distortion.
I have several lower end leupold (vx2 and freedom) and for the same kind of money they are better scopes.

A 300 magnum will break those cheap scopes.

Bought a bushnell Banner for my kids rifle this year and I’m surprised how good it looks and has done so far.

I have 2 of the same. 1 on a .270 and 1 on .35 Whelen. Both very clear with very good eye relief.

I looked at Nikon and Vortex before I purchased the Nikon. It just seemed clearer than Vortex. My kids said the same. So far I haven't been disappointed.

Found a Nikon Buckmaster II for under $150 used. At that price, I’ll give it a shot just because

I agree with everything you described about the crossfire. Had the same thing happen to me. Bought a .35 whelen with it as a package deal. I will be taking it off.

I'm thinking of expanding my budget a tad to bring Leupold into the mix

I would take a serious look at Leupold glass in your price range. They are rugged and they stand behind their products. I have two VX-III that are awesome and I even have a VX-I that was about $200 and I can see fairly well ate dust and dawn.
