Electrical Question, Ceiling Fan Light
I'm taking down a ceiling fan with a light fixture and replacing it with just a light fixture for my elderly neighbor. The ceiling fan has a switch and the light on the current ceiling fan is on a separate switch. My question is, when I replace it. What should I do with the wires that are running the ceiling fan now?

Not an electrician but I would.....

Put a wire nut on them individually and cover with electrical tape

Commercial electrician here
Just pull the ceiling fan down inside the j-box if what you’re saying is correct you will have a neutral (white) 2 hots (blacks) and grd (grn)
just wire nut the black hot for the ceiling fan then hook up the light wiring

Thanks. I just replaced 2 in my house and the same fellas wired both of our houses. I'll just put a wire nut on each wire individually. Thanks everyone.

This. It will be tucked in the box just in case a fan is ever put back in that spot

It'll probably be a black, red, white and green...romex doesn't come with multiple black wires. If it were in conduit it'd most likely be blacks. Just cap off any that aren't being used. Unless you have high quality tape, scotch 33+, I would bother taping it. A tan or yellow wire not will suffice. If you tape it the adhesive will be a MESS within a few months and if anyone ever needs back in the box for any reason that mess will a PIA for them. You will have a switch that doesn't control anything though, most likely....something a housing inspector will act as if the world is ending soon should someone list the property for sale and have to hire one of those shysters in order to check a box on the mortgage app.

The switch leg may be white....be careful. Most residential over head lights have the feed coming in and continuing through the box. This will be a black, white and bare copper wire coming in and going out. In the simplest situation there will be a third set of all 3. The 2 black wires from the feed or line (that goes to the next box) will be tapped together and the white wire from the switch should also be tapped to those black wires...so current will travel to the switch on the white wire inside the romex to the switch...and will return back to the light via the black wire in the romex going to the switch so the fixture will hang on a black wire from the switch and a white wire from the feed or line...but it is entirely possible that it will be hanging from two white wires...on from the switch and one from the line....it'll function either way and there is no code issue either way it just normally not done that way but some home owners and jack leg electricians do not know and will feed a switch hot with the black conductor and return on the white....
