Howdy all,

I picked up an Echo CS-590 after Hurricane Laura. It came with the 20" bar. I used my cheap Chinese chainsaw for most of the cleanup, until I cracked the bar oil tank. It had a 20" and a 14" bar that I loved to switch between.

Can I use a 14" bar on the CS-590? I have Googled it, but cannot find a straight answer. I know my Chinese 50cc saw slung the 14" chain, i'd love to see what a good Echo 60cc saw would do.

Depends on what bar mount the chicom saw had on it. 3 things you have to compare (in addition to chain pitch), bar mount slot, oiling hole placement, and chain adjustment placement.

If both are the same chain pitch and everything else matches you should be good to go.

The saw had a 20" bar to start with. I know that you have to match slot, oil, and chain between bar and saw.

I guess what I was asking, will a 14" bar be too light/small for the CS-590? Can it over spin a chain?

I can easily see a 60cc saw overspinning a 10" bar, but have no idea what's reasonable past that.

Here is the echo chart with recommendations for saw blades for their various models. The 14” isn’t specifically listed as recommended or compatible with CS 590.
