How do you determine if the meat on a squirrel is good? I've never eaten squirrel before but I shot one to try it. I cleaned it and the meat looks ok but I don't know much about them. Also how do y'all cook them?

Cook it and eat it. One of my favorites as far as taste goes. If it weren't for the small bones!

Hardly worth doing with one.......but if its old, throw it in the pressure cooker for 8 minutes boil time, if its young, 3-4 minutes with some seasoning.

Take it out, dip it in seasoned flour and panfry crisp. Thank me later.

If you really want to show out....brine it about 24 hours.

As long as there are no worms (bald spots of missing hair/sores) on the body, squirrel meat is really good. Don't worry if you find a little hair in the gravy, baw. Just adds flavor.

Put it on the BBQ at 450 for about an hour. Rotate every 20 minutes. Should kill off all potential threats

We've always just smothered them down with onions and bell peppers. Eat on side of some white beans and rice. Mmm Mm Mm...

At my camp they would always season the meat then dip it in flour and put some grease in a pot and throw it in there and it would make its own roux but it would come out like a grease gravy, talk about good baww

There was a time when the eating squirrels from a large neighborhoods was not recommended because the squirrels would have lead ingestion from Plumbing roof jacks. Those roof jacks are gone away from lead and are now made of rubber and neoprene so that warning no longer exists.

However there is a large amount of information now indicating that eating squirrel brains has a direct link to a degenerative brain disorder that causes Lewy Body type dementia.

Eat the squirrels avoid the brains
