I live within 5 miles of LFT, and want to fly my new toy every afternoon. I am a hobbyist and yes I have my FAA registration.

Are we all really contacting the airport each time?
Do we call the tower? Who Else? Anyone have the numbers for them?

just fly low and you will be fine. If you fly high, at lease take the numbers off your drone so they wont know its you who crashed the plane.

FAA rules must stay under 400 ft.
Baton Rouge says you must stay over 350 ft.

I'm in Lafayette and rigtnon the edge of the 5 miles. I haven't called once before flying. Also have a buddy that flies at Cajun Field without calling.

This is pretty stupid - and in violation of FAA regs.

So is masturbating on a plane....
J/k

Smart flying, being aware of surroundings and adjusting for them is key.

Obey the law. The law is clear. It's there for a reason, not the least of which is to keep people safe. And my apologies for omitting earlier that it's reckless and irresponsible. Maybe when you reach puberty you'll understand.

Maybe..... It's just like speeds limit laws and people speeding to me. There broken every day. Some breaking the speed limits cause deaths, some will never harm a person. All depends when and where u do it.

Maybe? Would you fly on an airliner with a pilot that "might" follow the regulations? Drone pilots are regulated by the same Federal Aviation Administration that regulates airline pilots. The FAA says who can and cannot use Federal airspace and make the rules they *MUST* follow. You don't have the discretion to follow the rules some of the time. Not your decision. They have these rule thingies that you obviously think don't apply to you for some obscure reason. You might want to check with the passengers inside the aircraft that the drone is about to get ingested into. They might have a different opinion about "Maybe".

What part of "5 miles" don't you understand? "5 miles from airports without prior notification to airport and air traffic control". LINK

quote:

In general, the difference between murder and manslaughter is that murder requires an intent to kill (or to inflict great bodily injury), but manslaughter does not. Thus, a defendant does not have to intend to kill or injure anyone in order to be guilty of vehicular manslaughter. To be convicted of vehicular manslaughter in most jurisdictions, the prosecution must prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, that: the driver operated a motor vehicle in a reckless or grossly (severely) negligent manner, and the driver’s conduct caused a fatality.

Even speeding (say 30mph over the limit) may potentially land you in prison if you end up killing someone.

I would not want to risk 100+ counts of manslaughter if my drone ended up crashing a commercial airliner.

My buddies drone will not let him fly close to airports and a few other things. The program actually makes the drone land before you can enter the forbidden airspace.
