Don’t know if some heard, but the media boat was out and took a pic of Ron Champion taking a pic of a fish. Shouldn’t have been a big deal, but when you look closer his board is bent at the head pretty good which would allow an additional inch. By the way he finished 2nd.

looks to me like he is using a board that is meant to be folded, and the fish is resting on the board. In order to get an incorrect measurement the fish would have to be held straight while the board is "bent". The fish is resting on the board, as you can see his hand holding the fish down.

How did you come up with it gave him an extra inch?

Quick sketch on a post it but maybe this helps. Essentially he is making the fish appear longer by bending or creasing the hawg trough but having the fish run over the gap.

I don't see how that can be proven from this photo.

What is holding the fish off of the board?

Kayak fishermen are nothing but trouble.

I don't know about "proven" but you can 100% tell it isn't flat on the bottom of the kayak which are generally the rules when measuring in a CPR tournament. You can see both ends of the bump board and one is up on the gunwale of the kayak and the other is on the floor. Now where/how much it is bent or creased, I don't know. But it looks suspicious.

Boards that are meant to be folded are not allowed in the Hobie BOS or most other CPR tournaments for this reason.

The board in the picture is a hawg trough which is a solid plastic board.

Red circles are ends of the bump board. Green is presumptive path of the bump board. Blue is path of fish.

The board is curved and the fish is curved, i'm not gonna argue whether it changes the length or not until someone tests the theory and shows picture/video proof. The fish doesn't just stay in a straight line while the board is curved.

However, there is a reason he is doing it and it don't seem like a very good reason.
