A little background, I've only owned labs and one wirehaired griffon, all have been males.

I'm in the market to get another dog for the family and to just have fun training with a possibility of hunting water fowl. Maybe breeding...

Would you: A) purchase a ckc male that is under $1000 with papers, no health guarantee, and the breeder has done all the worming and shots. B) purchase same ckc breed as a female, over $1000 with a 2 year health guarantee, required ofa cert, and has legit veterinarian paper work?

If you want to breed, get you a F1b male labradoodle. Dogs are smart as they get. I've got a female, and the prices that I've got back on stud fees are ridiculous. F1b pups are going for 12-1500 a pop now.

I'm pretty deadset on the breed I want this go round. I'm just curious as to if it's worth it to go all in with the health stuff.

If you're gonna shell out close to a thousand clams to get a purebred dog, why not spend a couple hundred extra to make sure you're getting your money's worth? Just my opinion.

Get a Griffon again. Driving to Greenville, SC now to pick mine up from Upland Bird Training. I've owned labs as well but will stay with the griffons from now on.

Too much hair for me personally. I'm not into the ol shaggy dog look. Great dogs from what I hear though.

I've just grown tired of the breed. I loved my griffon and figured a goldie is a good mixture of the two

1) The best dog you'll ever own will be a stray or a pound rescue

2) female dogs are sweeter, smarter, easier to train, and easier to be around. Males are basically knuckleheads.

These two statements are pretty solid

Agree 100% with both.

Hell, most of the time pounds/rescues have young labs available.

My two year old labradoodle female still chews shite. I can't break her if it, even though she knows she did wrong, because she'll hide under the kitchen table when we come home from work.

(Former pro)
Gender makes no difference. I've trained hard headed bitches and soft males.
If you want a gundog, make sure pup is from parents that Both hunt.
Why ckc? Personally id get a dual registered AKC/UKC pup from Master Hunter or The equivalent in UKC parents.
Get the pup the breeder stands behind the most. Parents should be Ofa good or higher on hips and elbows.
Normally you get what you pay for. The easiest dog I ever trained was a $2500 pup from two Field champion parents. Folks will always tell you about their friend that owns this mut or a rescue who is fantastic, that is not the norm.
Talk to several breeders. Unfortunately there are TONS of "used car salesman " that sell puppies also. These folks prey on the unknowing and will charge a high price for a lesser bred animal. They will push their corvette on you and you'll wind up with a pento, so be aware.

Their actually both dual ckc and akc, sorry about that.

Slept on it and still couldn't come to a final one. The female breeder seems professional and the other seems to just have bred their family pets.

This is a no brainer... Get the female Golden with the health certs. Great family dogs obviously but with the GR breed you need all the professionalism and health certs you can get. Just too many fly by night breeders out there because they are so popular. That extra few hundred bucks will save you from a tremendous amount of vet bills that will not be optional once you have a family that loves that dog.

ETA - Only if ALL 4 of the family pets parents were from professional breeders and BOTH had no hip, eye or other health issues would I consider that route.
