Dobyn's Champion Rods
Posted by TheDrunkenTigah on 3/2/18 at 9:21 am00
Anyone spent some time with these? I currently use a lot of Ducketts and Falcons, and I like them a lot but Dobyns is getting a ton of hype. The more specialized I get the more I understand the concept of a fast rod with a soft tip, but in my current rods its either one way or the other. Academy here just got a few Sierras in stock and it's the most balanced (non-micro guide) rod I've held. The Champions figure to be a step up from that in sensitivity and weight?

I have a Champion Extreme. It’s a great rod. Would definitely recommend.

Super sensitive. I have the Champion Series 702 glass crankbait/rattletrap type rod. It's the best quality rod I own, but I still like my old carrot stick and all stars for spinner baits and worm fishing.
Side note. LA boy sponsored by Dobyns lead day 1 yesterday on Ross Barnett Bassmaster Open. LINK I grew up with him and he turned me on to Dobyn's years ago when they were only on the West coast.

Man those extremes look nice. How do you feel it compares to other brands? Anything in particular stand out? I won't have a chance to put my hands on these before I buy, so I keep waffling on it.

I think you mentioned this last summer when I was asking about glass vs graphite cranking rods. That or one like it is on the list too. How big of a crankbait do you feel the 2 power rod handles comfortably? Trying to get a feel for the ratings. People say they fish a little lighter than other companies but the Sierras I held seemed about the same as any other in terms of MH and H.

Love my Dobyns, you won't be disappointed in the slightest.

I don't fish big deep divers very often, but it would be too soft if I did, I'd use a different rod. I fish mainly rattle traps, square bill crank baits and the occasional 4-6' diving cranks with it.

Sure seems like once people get their hands on them they don’t go back. Out of that 20 what are your favorites?

I ordered a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP 7foot Casting Rod (DX704C) last night to use for Texas Rigs, Swim Jigs, Ribbit/Hollow Body Frogs, and Buzzbaits and Spooks. It's my first Dobyns and I hope I made a good decision ordering it. Currently I have Kistler Heliums and one Megabass Destroyer FMJ that I use and I love all of them. I just wanted to try something different.

Wowzers
I couldn't imagine paying that for a rod

I just tell myself it’s like golf, which I don’t play. Guys spend all kinda money on golf clubs right?
