Yet another flat on the boat trailer. Hate using my truck jack for several reasons. Floor jacks are nice, but I don't have anywhere to put one in the truck(need a tool box I guess). The bottle ones seems like only a small improvement over the GM stock one.

I carry a floor jack under back seat of truck, it's a life saver for flats on boats, etc...

Keep a regular jack on the floor board of my backseat. Not a huge floor jack but a similar smaller one.

Get a little hydraulic jack from Harbor Freight. Takes up very little room and has saved my arse several times.

I keep an aluminum Harbor Freight floor jack and jack-stands in my work vehicle and bought a set for my fiancée to keep in the tool box of her truck too. Fraction of the weight of steel and have had zero problems. I also have a small 6-ton bottle jack that fits in a smaller tool box.

The bottle ones?

Saw some floor jacks on eBay in their own plastic case.

Measure how much lift you need too, small bottle jack might not have the range you need without a block under it. Same with a small floor jack, they top out around 15" max lift height.

Yep.
8" tall. You can jack it with a big screwdriver if necessary.

That's my main problem with the truck jack. It's too tall for the lowest point on my trailer. Next step up means I'm at it's very end when the tire is fully off ground. Block of wood will now be in the truck full time.

I keep two 4x4 blocks and a couple short 2x4's in the bed of truck. Even with factory tires the oem jacks don't have enough travel to get a tire off on the right side of the trucks. HF bottle jack is a cheap investment for those unpredictable times when you have a flat.

I like a flush mount tool box on stands. A) with new trucks as tall as they are now, the side on a flush mount is low enough to actually get in there. B) you can still stick lumber and such underneath it

Mine is a 20" wide, but i think i would like a 12' like this one...

I looked at the high end ones with double cam lockers, etc., but in the end just went with a tractor supply special that was on sale.

Saved a ton of money and it does all I need it to do by being a catch all. (Hold jumper cables, jack, shop rags, etc.) I keep an actual tool box with sockets, screw drivers and stuff like that in the cab under the seat.

Then there's the kayak carry issue. Wonder if there's one with enough clearance under it to slide a yak?

Had a cheaper tractor supply box on my old dodge, when I wrecked it in 09, I gave it to my grandpa. He still has it on his truck and doesn't have issues that I'm aware of. I've got a husky on my '15 GMC. The latch doesn't always catch the lid so you have to slam it hard, but I bent it one time closing it with a wrench hung up on it. To answer your question, I carry an old floor jack. Nothing too big.

I believe they make shallow boxes so you can slide stuff under. Might be good for the yak

The gull wing has a notch between the lids to rest the keel. Keep tailgate up and strap down yak on top of tool box and tailgate. Store gear in the bed...
