Do yall recommend stocking coppernose bluegill?

The fish truck from Arkansas will be in my area Thursday morning and I need to get a couple of new sterile grass carp for the grandkids' pond. After reading a post last week that had a picture of a big coppernose bluegill, I am considering stocking about 100 of them in their pond. I've already got an established bass and bluegill population, but if these coppernose bluegill will thrive, I'd love to have them in there, too. What say ye on the outdoor board? Will they survive the mountain winters up here? I've got a small branch feeding this pond and a couple of underground springs feeding it also. This pond is small...only about 1/3 of an acre. Thanks in advance!

Unless you have a feeder on the pond or plan on feeding them religiously, I don't know that it'd be a good idea. Even with a feeder, I don't know that they would thrive with already established populations. If you can make it work, I guarantee there will be nothing more fun to catch, pound for pound, than a big papa coppernose on an ultralight or fly rod.

I love 'em. As previously stated, they might struggle a bit with an established population. But they are damn fun to catch, good forage, and pretty good eating.

I do feed the fish regularly. The bass will follow me around the pond waiting to be fed even when I'm down there mowing or weedeating. I don't feed when cold weather gets here, though. They just quit eating the feed. Would these coppernose bluegill still need to be fed regularly even during the wintertime?
