Anyone hunting in snow? There is sleet and snow on the radar right now.

I have heard that the deer down here go crazy when it snows because they don't know what it is and they move around like crazy. Anyone have any comments on that?

My nephew is hunting right now we will see it has started to sleet and snow where he is according to the radar.

Clarification: I am talking about when there is enough snow for it to accumulate on the ground.

Hunted in the snow the last time it fell. Didn't help me at all.

I'm sure it all depends on the area and time of year (pre/post rut, etc...). Some deer will move, some will just hunker down.

Killed my first buck with a bow in January 2008 at Red River WMA (Now called Richard K. Yancy) in the snow.

He was definitely chasing a doe... not sure if it was just the right time of year or if the snow had anything to do with it.

Sure was a memorable hunt

Out hunting them now. It's mainly sleet with a little snow mixed in. Have a feeling I'm wasting my time but what better place to be wasting time?

Killled a decent 8 pt the day after it snowed in 2008. Unfortunately I won't be hunting this weekend

Finally saw a squirrel. Think everything is hunkered down in this mess but it sure changes the scenery.

A rutting buck will chase a hot doe, but generally speaking, these type of conditions will make southern deer hunker down in a thicket out of the wind and preserve energy. They'll burn more calories than they gain moving right now. Best times are right before a nasty front like this and then the first day that it gets above freezing with the sun out. It would be unsafe to drive to my camp right now, but hope to make it over some time tomorrow.

In my experience, they move a lot just before and the beginning of snow, but when after that they just hunker down and stop moving. I've done it twice, and at first there were tracks everywhere and we saw deer. The next day, you couldn't see any tracks in the snow and we didn't see shite the rest of the weekend. This was the same both times.

2 sons are ready to walk to their spots in the morning here in north central Alabama. We have a coating of sleet and snow building right now.

My nephew hunted yesterday and this morning with snow on the ground. He didn't see a deer!!! Hopefully they start moving soon.

He has a food plot that had a lot of tracks in the snow from last night. He knows it was that night because he hunted the food plot yesterday evening.

Hopefully the will move this evening for him. Very unusual for him to not see deer.

Been hunting SouthArk today and yesterday with snow and 10-28 temps. Haven't seen a deer, but agree...rather be here than work.

That being said. I've seen deer when it's hot, cold, rainy or perfect. I've also never seen a damn thing in all those conditions.

I hunt up around Vicksburg, MS. Was there Thursday - Today. Deer activity was good Thursday, but when that bad sleet rolled through, nothing was moving once the sleet and ice accumulated.

I've hunted in the same place with about six to eight inches of snow and didn't see anything then either.

I agree with most of the other posts on here stating that deer down south seem to hunker down during these bad winter storms.

Had an 7 and 10 point killed am after all the sleet

Walking in woods was like walking on corn flakes....but I think it had more to do with rut.
