So many options even within some good brands.
Looking at a 10x42 or 12x50 to take out west to yellowstone and eventually to Alaska.
I know they can run WAY higher, but that's about all I want to spend.
Any recs?

I’ve got a set of Vortex binoculars. Perfect for me.

I was looking at some vortex crossfire 12x50 for 179. Anyone know if those are comparable in quality to the diamnondbacks?

Just for looking watching wildlife or for hunting? The reason I ask is if you are going to be glassing all day looking for animals you probably want to spend some more to get a higher quality setup so you aren’t dealing with fatigue. That said vortex makes excellent binos for the money.

Just looking at wildlife for short periods. Wont be using them continuously.
Anything I plan on looking at for an extended period of time I'll set up my scope for.

In the Vortex lineup, the Crossfire products are a step below the Diamondback. Having said that, I have a Crossfire scope and multiple Diamondback optics (1 scope and 2 binoculars). I've been pleased w/ both product lines.

I'm in the Vortex camp. I've got a pair of 10x40 Diamondback HD's and 10x50 Diamondbacks. The HD's are a newer model and are a little clearer. Having said that, I use the 12x's a lot, especially on prairie dog hunts. There is a 10x40 Diamondback that's an older model and is non-HD. I'd think it's still a very good product, especially for the price. When on sale, they're very inexpensive at $130 or so. You might still be able to find them. If you go w/ the 10x40's, be sure you know whether you're paying for HD or non-HD model.

I have a couple pair of older Nikons, and an older pair of Steiner. Either one works well for my use...

I read up on the Diamondbacks vs crossfire 12x50.
Basically there was three main things that seperated them.
1. Diamondbacks could focus at 5 feet, crossfire at 6.
This is extremely unimportant to me, I'm not gonna use them that close.
2. Diamondbacks have a 330 feet field of view at 1000 feet, crossfire has 325.
To me, that's insignificant.
3. Diamondbacks have argon instead of nitrogen, which makes them a but more durable cause the argon has bigger molecules which is less like to seep out if you drop them.
I'm pretty careful with my stuff.
For almost 100 dollars less I went with the crossfires.
Thanks for the help guys. Those mavens did sound nice. If I buy a better pair one day I'll probably look at those.

You can get higher quality ED glass at the same price as non-ED glass Vortex with Hawke at the expense of lifetime no questions asked warranty. So better quality glass or better warranty. I have a Vortex Binocular and a Hawke monocular with ED and my ED glass Hawke has noticeable better optical quality with similar feel and build. You just can't beat the physics of ED glass.

Love my Hawke scope. Would not hesitate to buy their other products.
Can you rephrase this?

I got a pair of Leupold BX-2 Acadia binoculars a year and a half ago for just under $200 total. I don't think Leupold makes them any more, but they are great! If you can find a pair of Leupolds in your price range, I don't think that you will be disappointed.
