What is the best poison to kill stickers in my yard. I have never had them this bad. My dog doesn't even wanna go in my yard to pee or take a crap cause they are so bad. I have already sprayed Atrazine and put out weed and feed and neither has helped.

A broadleaf herbicide containing 2,4-D. Bad thing is once the stickers brown and harden, they remain even after killing the plant.

Are your "stickers" the same plant that we call "sand spurs"? If so, I really don't know the best way to get rid of them other than digging them up and burning them. Friend of mine in South Carolina kept the sand spurs under reasonable control by mowing with a high vac mower which collected his clippings as he mowed. He then burned the clippings when they dried out. He still had sand spurs in his yard but not nearly as bad as his neighbor.

this is the reason he still had them. He was keeping them under control yet his neighbor was not. I find the same things happens with ants. you can patrol and kill all the any beds in your yard, but if you neighbors just leave them be, they will com into you yard.

So i spray ant poison a weed killer on my 2 neighbors yards. they buy me beer in return. win(me) win(them) win(me)

"sand spurs"

These sand spurs....are those the same as "cockaburrs"? My mom started getting those in her St Augustine yard after the hurricanes (Rita and Ike)....starting to get them under control now, but her little dogs didn't like them either...and she constantly had to clean them out of the fur/hair (she's got little dogs...Yorkies (aka ankle biters)).

Sand Burrs and Xanthium (cockleburs) are not the same as lawn burweed/sticker grass.

Might be a regional name thing, but cockle burrs are a lot bigger than sand spurs and not nearly as sharp or painful. Sand spurs are wicked and they have this uncanny ability to ride up the inside of your pants and stick you. Cockle spurs are a nuisance, but sand spurs are the spawn of Satan.

I had the same problem and spot sprayed 2,4-D once a week in March. It looked terrible for a while, but now they are all gone and the spots are filling in. I'll use a pre-emergent this year to prevent them next spring.

Looks like i will buying 2,4-D. I could care less about looking terrible. I'll just water the hell out of it and my St Aug will eventually grow in the spots. Thanks guys appreciate the help. Now, on to buy 2,4-D to hopefully get rid of the lil bastards from hell.

St. Augustine will easily crowd out stickers if you will let it, i.e., fertilize it and don't mow it too short.

You need to spray now and early next spring before they form the sticker. Unfortunately, now the stickers have already formed and just spraying will not get rid on the sticker itself. Start early next spring and kill them before they form.
