Cutting pampas grass right now

I have pampas grass that hasn't been trimmed / annual cut in 3 years. There is more dead grass than green. Can I cut them now? I read the usual time is late winter.

Light them in fire. seriously. Guy who runs a nursery told us that was the best thing and it works. Back up though, going to be a HOT fire. They will grow back soon.

They’re gonna burn hot and long, so consider what and who they are next to.
If they are big they’re gonna be a mess when you cut them (if you go that route).
They make a great border but I hate the row between me and my neighbor

Can't light them on fire, they are next to my house. Not sure why the previous owner planted 3.

I asked my neighbor why he planted 3 rows of the shite. He laughed and said he didn't. They just multiplied. I used a front end loader to remove two of the rows. They've been there 20+ years and are OOC. Next time I'm running a dozer strait thru them.

Diesel in a sprayer, get hot with it and burn them down asap. By late August they will be lush and dark green

That's even worse.
If you want to them to remain (like others have said) burning is the easiest way to maintain them. Cutting them down is labor intensive and messy but they will recover.
Cortaderia spp. is very labor intensive to eradicate, but if you want them gone, you will have to dig up the "crown" and remove it. Any incidental re-sprouts can be easily dispatched with some glyphosate.
Dig them up, and replace them with some fruit trees that you, your family, and your neighbors can enjoy for many years to come!

You can poison them with roundup but you will have to hit em several times.
