Cub Cadet XT
Looking for a new riding mower. Have been looking at the XT series. I only have 1/2 acre to cut, relatively flat residential hood.

Basically the only feature I know to look for is the fabricated deck. I know little about which engines are better than others, bearings vs bushings etc. Anything else I should be aware of?

Looking for feedback on this model or any of the similar ones. Anyone have experience with this model?

Looks like mine , I have the ltx 1040 , my yards about the same as yours , I’ve had it about 7 years now with no issues. I like the reverse mow feature, and its automatic, u just go and it’s fast.

re: Cub Cadet XT
Went through this before this season. Same size lot as you.

Things to look for:

1. V Twin Motor - runs smoother, more readily available torque.
2. Metal Transmission - a lot of the smaller tractors have plastic transmissions.
3. True hydro-static transmission, if you are looking for a hydro-static transmission.

I went with the John Deere E-120, which is a 42 inch cut. A little more expensive than the other 42 inchers, but happy with my choice.

re: Cub Cadet XT
Thanks for the info. I wouldn’t be opposed to a smaller cut but the Cub with a fabricated deck starts at 46”.

Another question is did you buy from a big box? I know most people say not to, but specifically speaking to the Cub, I’m not really seeing where they have different models at the big box stores as opposed to a dealer.

re: Cub Cadet XT
That’s pretty much the only place around me that sells them.

I was wondering if they were considered big box.

46", EFI, electric start and electric PTO for 1/2ac...damn baw, lemme hold a dolla.

I have 3/4ac 42" basic XT1. It's a good mower. I love cutting in reverse without override mods. Even has baw LED headlights. Great mower, great price but dunno a out the EFI one. My only negative is it can get bouncy over roots and uneven cut when full lock turn, but I think this is common with all standard MTD style riders.

ETA mine is big box (HD). Would buy again. I'm closing in on 50 hrs. Have mulch kit with gator blades. Thought about adding bagger but I'd only use it twice a year and not worth it or storing bagger.

re: Cub Cadet XT
I just bought a used 2017 XT2 with 46" fab deck on a facebook yard sale. Had 16 hours on it. I like it so far, have mowed with it 2-3 times, nice turning radius. Has the Kohler engine, didn't really want that, but it was basically new, and came with grass catcher and wheel lift.

Why can’t I ever find deals like this. How much did you pay if you don’t mind me asking?

re: Cub Cadet XT
$1800 for mower, bagger setup and the lift. When I saw the ad, the lady who owned it mentioned the low hours and bagger. She was mowing basically a postage stamp size yard with it for 2 seasons, let than 8 hours a season. Her brother owns an equipment dealership, so I'm guessing he gave all of it to her.

She had the cub cadet lift, so I had offered her $1700, then went to $1800 if she gave me the lift too. She had never used it.

Edit: I think it was an overall good deal. It's push button start, and like I said, has the Kohler engine, but it seems strong and cuts well. I changed the oil, filter, and new blades after I got it. I'm pretty happy with it overall. Love the turning radius.
I thought it was a good deal. I think that model new is around $2200 plus bagger and lift.

re: Cub Cadet XT
One thing to consider if you want the 46” is if you have a fence gate to go through. Measure and make sure you will be able to ride through especially if you want to add the bagger. For that reason I bought the 42”. Kohler motors have been great for me without any issues including a pressure washer that I own.

Another thing to note is this thing kicks up some dirt. If part of your land is dry and weeds and not a lot of grass be prepared for a dust storm. My old John Deere never had an issue with this.

re: Cub Cadet XT
MTD is making their own engines with fuel injection for the XT Cub Cadet you linked. I would prefer and tried and true Kohler engine with a carburetor. I can fix a carb or replace it cheaper than I can get the Cub Cadet dealer to hook up my mower to his diagnostic computer to see whats wrong with the fuel injection system.

I have the XT1 with the 54" fabricated deck. This is my 3rd summer with it and no issues so far. I have 1-1/4 acres that I cut weekly. The lifetime deck warranty is what sold me on it.

re: Cub Cadet XT
I have 52 inch cut cub cadet with 23 hp Briggs & Stratton engine. It is about 10 years old and is still going strong, probably will be able to get a few more years out of it. The deck is pretty thick and not that thin sheet metal from years ago. No rust or anything, the motor will outlive the deck which is a new trend in riding mowers.

re: Cub Cadet XT
I have this one with the Kohler motor. Haven't had any issues other than a leaky rear tire, but that was probably my fault. It cuts evenly unless at full turn, which is to be expected.

This is the second mower I've had with the Kohler engine. The first one I had by the time it got to me was over 10 years old and the mower itself went out before engine did.

Dont know much about the EFI but Kohler makes a damn good engine.
