Consistent shotgun sound Chicot State Park

Was camping this weekend at Chicot State Park (Ville Platte) and would hear throughout the night what sounded like a very distant, but solid boom to the north of the camp grounds. Sounded like a shotgun or cannon blast. The thing is it was consistent throughout the night maybe every 30 seconds and would not stop at a certain time. It was definitely very far off , but it had that punch that gives me an impression that where ever it was it was extremely loud if you were in close proximity to it. Anybody have any idea what it could have been? It sounded like a tribute was dying if you've ever watched the Hunger Games.

Propane cannon for rice fields

Could have been an air cannon to keep an animal away from something.

Possibly, air cannons to keep the birds away from the crawfish?

Chicot always has some strange things going down at night.

You'd really hate it in this part of Evangeline Parish, I'm surrounded by rice and crawfish fields every year. But in all actuality, propane cannons are being used less and less IMHO.

The one and only time we camped out at Chicot, a group showed up at the cabin next to ours at about sundown. 13 guys and 1 woman, all of middle-eastern descent, at various point throughout the night we would hear random shrieking and yelling and several times I would notice flashing strobe lights from the windows of their cabin. By 7:00am the next morning they were gone.

Care to fill us in? I have camped there probably close to 100 times the last 15 years and have never noticed anything strange. The majority of those trips were camping in tents.
