Posted on the H&G board but got no response. Figured id try here. I'm in the process of building a 30x40 shop. I've heard about people in South Louisiana having problems with condensate dripping inside off of the ceiling. Anyone experience this and/or have a solution?
Thanks

did your concrete slab have a proper polyethylene plastic vapor barrier installed properly?

Yes the concrete guy did install a vapor barrier.
Would that have anything to do with condensate forming and dripping from the roof panels?
Im wondering if I should lay some sort of house wrap or a foil insulation before putting the metal up

metal buildings will do this if they dont have any ventilation. its caused by having heat or cold trapped inside the building while the metal itself is the opposite temperature.

if you have concerns then add ventilation for it or get the building insulated

i had this issue with my metal shop that i built last summer. Proper vapor barrier in the slab and all. I added an 18" 3000CFM exhaust fan and it helped but not enough. I ended up spray foam insulating to solve that and the bug issue haha
I dont think they did the vent on top of the roof ridge cap correctly. There are guys down my street with the same style shop that isnt insulated and i wonder if they have water dripping from the roof like i did

I have heard of a product called Drip Stop that is applied to the metal panels when the panels are manufactured. Have no idea if it works or is worth the extra money. I'm sure there is a debate about it on some message board Check or do a search on The Garage Journal forum/message board.

It’s an insulation problem. If it’s not insulated, insulate it. And make sure there aren’t any voids in it because it will build up in the insulation liner.

Slab has very little to do with condensation in south Louisiana it’s a relative humidity issue Seal the building dry the air inside the building & insulate it

Insulate the roof. 3” vinyl back is the most common type used on metal buildings.

Like other said, this won’t happen if you insulate the roof.

A small vent fan moving air on a continuous basis will fix this problem forever. I have even seen folks install some 18" or 24" vents on each end and solve it.

Is it air conditioned space? you could have installed an over sized unit for the space.

Proper ventilation and insulation will solve this problem. The amount of ventilation and insulation will depend on size and height of shop and if the shop is already air conditioned

No it's not. Im still framing it up. It's a 30x40x14. 4/12 roof. I don't have any direct plans to have AC in it. So for the time being I'll concentrate on establishing the right amount of ventilation. May add a exhaust fan as someone mentioned. And if I ever do decide to install AC, I'll get the spray foam insulation.
Thanks for all the responses

Ventilate it properly, and you’ll have no issues. Turbines, ridge vent, solar vents, etc . There’s plenty of good options for proper ventilation.
